This enjoyable memoir is not just for people who love Beverly Cleary's children's books, but for anyone interested in post WWI Portland, Oregon or a well written tale of growing up during The Great Depression. The reading level described in the listing is 12 years or younger, but I think despite Cleary's lovely simple prose, the events described will be better *understood* by readers 12 years old and older, as it does cover Beverly's life through age 18, and high school graduation.
I loved this one! It has been years, if not decades, since I read any of Beverly Cleary's wonderful books. How interesting it was to travel back into her own childhood since her books were so much a part of mine! Spirited fun.
Beverly Cleary, one of the most beloved children's authors of all time, wrote A Girl from Yamhill as a memoir of her childhood. In this book Beverly tells her readers a lot about who she is and where she came from. Filled with memories and personal history, this was an interesting read for anyone who wants to know more about this author.
