The series, set in Regency London, keeps getting better. Gabriel Lacey, an ex-military officer, on half-pay, continues to solve mysteries.
The deceased wife of a barrister is found in the Thames. Captain Lacey is sent for and works to to unravel who killed her and why. There are several surprising twists and turns in the book.

Excellent regency mystery series! Captain Lacey is a wonderful creation! I love this series and this one was one of the best books in it! You can read it as a standalone because the author provides the background information, but once you read one, you will find you have to read the rest!
