From the back:
In late 1956 an item in The Times of London stunned England's literary set. Confirmed bachelor and celebrated Christian apologist C.S. Lewis announced his marriagej to Joy Gresham. His choice could not have been more unlikley. Joy was an American, a divorce, an ex-Communist, and a former atheist. Yet this extraordinary and fascinating woman made a great impact on Lewis and his writings in the short time they had together.
A brilliant intellectual, Joy had aquired a Master's degree and published two books of poetry and a novel by age 25. However, in 1946 her failing marriage brought her to the point of desperation. It was then, with all her defenses down, that God visited her in a moment of revelation. At that encounter she began her pilgrimage from communism and atheism to faith in Christ- a fateful journey that intersected the path of one of England's great literary figures.
