The first section of the book provides an overview of polygamy, with emphasis on outlining the major polygamist groups in the Americas. I found this section to be very dry, and difficult to read. The majority of the book is comprised of brief histories of different women's experiences in polygamy. These stories are interesting, but lack the details and length necessary to be compelling reading.
This book reminds me of a textbook, rather than memoirs. I did not enjoy it as much as "Shattered Dreams," by Irene Spencer.

Wow. Just wow. I had already done reading into polygamy so this wasn't really all that surprising. The wow is more for the courage to leave and stay gone and *then* tell your story.
My only real criticism was that it was super hard to read with many women mentioned having the same names. I don't think they were supposed to be the same person and many people's names were changed - so why not change them to something more unique so that I'm not reading about multiple Sylvia's and Sherries and Lauras and Heathers wondering if they're interconnected and if so getting overwhelmed trying to keep them straight.

God's Brothel are several short stories from the women who experienced the humilitation of being forced into pologamy at very young age - as young as ll.
These stories are well written, and give insight into the lives not only of the
FLDS but other religious groups in the United States that practice polagamy.
The author does a fine job of introducing the subject in a non judgemental way, and has a map showing where the main groups live, and with what religious affliation they belong.
Each story was written by a different girl, and many religions are represented. This book is one of the best written on the subject.
