Author: Dee Henderson
Weary missionary James Graham comes home on medical leave. He meets the young woman who has been sending him care packages, Rachel Ashcroft, and his spirits lift. At the same time, he senses the deep grief Rachel carries, and his missionary work takes a different turn. God's Gift is a reprint of Henderson's second novel, first published but little noticed in 1998. It's worth purchasing because of the large following Henderson has developed since.

"Henderson has steadily built a name for herself . . . intriguing . . . insightful and probing." Publisher's Weekly

Missionary work in Africa was the most difficult and faith-affirming work James Graham had ever faced, and warm, homey presents from a Good Samaritan back home gave him the hope he needed to carry on. But an injury brought his work to a sudden halt and sent him home to Chicago. There, James met the women who'd sent those thoughtful gifts...

I enjoyed this quick read. I finished it in two evenings. While it's not a "keeper" for me, I will read more by this author. The characters are relatable and the story line wasn't predicatble. Not too preachy, either. Nice story.

I enjoyed this book so much. Dee Henderson makes you "feel" what the characters are feeling. As with her other books, I miss the characters when I am done reading. This is a book I pass along to friends.

From back cover...
Missionary work in Africa was the most difficult and faith-affirming work James Graham had ever faced, and warm, homey presents from a Good Samaritan back home gave him the hope he needed to carry on. But an injury brought his work to a sudden halt and sent him home to Chicago.

There, James met the woman who'd sent those thoughtful gifts, the charming Rachel Ashcroft, and he was intrigued by the shadow of sadness that haunted her expression. Bringing the light of happiness back to Rachel's lovely face gave new purpose to his life, but was this only a temporary respite? Or would James be able to release his past and open his heart to receive the gift of Rachel's love?

Award-winning novelist Dee Henderson is a lifelong resident of Illinois. Her CBA-bestselling novels include Christy Award-winning The Guardian and RITA Award-winning Danger in the Shadows.
