Global warming and ecological economics seem to be the thrust of this book. I pushed through it waiting for something of a mystery to happen. Yes there is a dead body right off, but the rest of the book revolves around the heroine's doom and gloom attitude and determination to make a murder of what may have been an accidental death. I just didn't like this one in the series.

Meg Corey discovers a body on the grounds of a sawmill's forest reserve...along with a beetle whose infestation could be the cause of the necessity of the destruction of acres of timber! While investigating death she is in a fight to save her orchard from drought .....and the fear of forest fire...She and boyfriend Seth's relationship is a little strained....IMO, this is one of the better additions to the series, even though the " evil doer " is apparent ....will read the next book in the series, as I find the restoration and apple orchard facts interesting...
