A great sci-fi universe which any doesn't contain any human characters. I like that.
Its a little slower than the other two books, but it sets them up well.
This is a must-read for sci-fi fans who want something new, and not just the same old post-apocalyptic and/or dystopia scenarios.
The Golden One offers something else.

Nice depiction of an alternate world.
The first book of a trilogy. The Golden One is Sahmrahd Kaa, a pet for the daughter of the ruler of the Viis. He slowly becomes the leader of the Great Emancipation and conqueror of those who stand in the way of justice, peace and freedom. Better than average sci-fi book.
A favorite of mine when I was a teenager. Storyline is a little predictable, but who doesn't love a story about a revolution? Ampris grows a lot through the series, becoming a believable hero.
I've read much better books. Is it worth reading, yes. Is it worth buying? No.
