I'm on the waiting list to borrow the novel from my local library. I think it will be faster than getting it from PBS. I've heard good and bad things about THE GOLDFINCH. The good......beautiful writing and a brilliant story. The bad.......too long (around 770 pages) too depressing and too many characters. Looking forward to reading it so I can judge for myself. But, would love to hear what others think about it! |

I loved it. I was not familiar with this author and now want to read everything she has written. While it was long, it kept me interested. The ending is different than I would have wanted, but the more I think about it, I suspect Tartt knew just what she was doing. I definitely didn't feel there were too many characters--with 700+ pages, it is quite a story and can't imagine it with just a few characters. |

700 pages doesn't faze me. I have read George RR Martin's first three in the Game of Thrones series, all 900+ pages. Ken Follett books are huge, The HIstorian and Discovery of Witches were at least that long, and I have Outlander on the TBR, LOL!! Maybe that is why I don't read as many books as others. I read some of the reviews on Goodreads, quite a mixed bag. Like you, Anna, I want to judge for myself. Thanks for the info Anita. |

I loved the book. It was one of the best that I listened to on audio last year. I almost ditched it after the first couple of chapters because the narrator made the young boy sound kinda whiney. Glad I went back to it, because the story, as well as the narration, became fantastic. |

The author Donna Tartt was on Charlie Rose yesterday....what a fascinating person! After watching her interview, I'm more than ever, looking forward to reading GOLDFINCH. She said it took her 10 years to write the novel. This is her 3rd book (has anyone read any of her other novels?) |

One month later, still moving but slowly - The Goldfinch: A Novel :: |

Donna Tartt is a brilliant author. I was so impressed with her first book (Secret History) and have her second one in my enormous TBR stack. As for The Goldfinch, I absolutely savored it. I loved how it ended. Rose |

I was "out of town" when my turn came up at the library for GOLDFINCH! Rats!! |

Another month later, here I sit! #of copies being posted has slowed considerably! I've advanced 28 spots overall, but the number of weeks is still over 10 years. There is a library sale next month, wish me luck! The Goldfinch: A Novel :: |

967 wishes for the book today. That is somebody with a strong positive attitude and a lot of hope to put themselves down on a wishlist that long. If you wait long enough the paperback will eventually be published and then the hardcover will start to really drop in price. At least you can hope that will happen. Sometimes that doesn't happen. It depends on how popular the book is. The DaVinci Code stayed on the bestseller list for over 3 years in hardcover before it finally went to pbk. |

FINALLY got it!! (from the library, on my kindle) |
Anna, Let me know your opinion, please. It will take some time for me to borrow from library. |
well how about The Fault in our Stars by John Green. The hardcover of that book has 1515 wishes. |

Hi Mary, I started GOLDFINCH last night. So far, I'm enjoying it! It is long....775 pages, so it will take a lot of time to read. I hope I can finish it before it is due. So many what to borrow the novel, that renewing it will not be an option. |

Edited multiple times because it kept getting garbled, adding Amazon buttons and putting the text over my siggy lines. Trying again below

Just checking in, here's today's look at the progress on The Goldfinch. It seems to be picking up a little speed. Charles, I have nothing to lose by waiting, and it is kinda fun to watch the progress. Plus I only have 200+ books on the TBR, so why not?
When I put The Help on my WL, I was somewhere around number 1620, and I got it in 8 months. I am very patient.
