This is the first of the Mathew Hope series. It spends a bit of time introducing the character Mathew and his origins and failure of his marriage. However, the plot keeps moving and I thought I knew who-done-it, but I was wrong at the end.

A woman and her two little girls have been brutally murdered. None of the alibis add up, and the only person who doesn't have a motive for the crime is the one confessing to it. Trying to piece together a defense, lawyer Matthew Hope uncovers a secret world of double lives and unhappy marriages.

The book takes place on the steamy west coast of Florida--a woman and her two daughters have been murdered. None of the alibis add up, and Matthew Hope is the defense attorney. Needless to say, it ends satisfactorily.

NOT an 87th Precinct novel.

I really enjoyed this look at the effect of adultery and of divorce due to adultery on the family. Of course, there's a murder too!
