Second book in the Hollows series. This book starts with Rachel being called in to help with a serial killer who has been killing witches with ley line abilities. Rachel suspects Trent Kalamack is behind the gruesome killings when his secretary Sara Jane comes into the FIB to report her boyfriend missing. Sara Jane showed kindness to Rachel when she was trapped as a mink in Trent's office so Rachel feels like she owes Sara Jane some help even if she doesn't know who Rachel is. Very interesting story threads throughout the book - more about Ivy's motives for rooming with Rachel, who is Trent Kalamack anyway, Rachel's past that involves Trent, what can finally make Nick afraid of messing with magic.. All make this a great page-turner. A couple of annoying things: the killer tomatoes and humans fear of them is beginning to annoy me. Also I find this one thing highly unbelieveable: 40 years of living with the supernatural and humans are THAT clueless about witches/vampires/weres/etc STILL? Everytime a human reacted in ignorance I would be irritated. I suspect this is a way for the author to explain more about supernatural culture to a reader, but I wish she found another way to do it than have her characters make really stupid mistakes and then explain why you don't do that to a vampire/witch/whatever.

I pretty much felt the same about this book that I did about the first! Rachel doesn't seem to be thinking anymore than she did during the first book and Ivy still is too far behind the scene. I still enjoyed the humor and this book began delving a little more into the romantic aspects of Rachel's life. Near the end a clearer picture is painted of what she seems to want!
I enjoyed this one; although, not as much as the first. I will continue the series!

Second book in the Rachel Morgan series. I would recommend this to anyone who likes paranormal or mystery stories. If you already read the Charlaine Harris-Sookie Stackhouse, Laurell K. Hamilton-Anita Blake or Janet Evanovich-Stephanie Plum series you will like this one.

I have to admit that at first I didn't think I would get into this series. That changed though, very quickly. I enjoyed the first, and this one was better. I love Jenks, Ivy and Trent. I hope we learn more about Trent, as he was one of my favorites. I am looking forward to reading the rest and see how things progress.

Really enjoyable read; I like this series. Rachel is tough and Ivy is a great, dangerous character. And who doesn't love Jenks? Quick read and not full of icky romance.

This one was another page turner in the series. It flowed from the first book very well and introduced us to some new characters that we may grow to love (or love to hate). I continue to be impressed by the writing style of this author because I don't lump her books into fluff-fantasy but something more dark with a definite twist of humor. This is one of the better "paranormal" series out there.

I will be honest, it took me a while to get through this book. I really like the way Kim Harrison writes, I love the world of the series, and the characters are great, but she can be very frustrating! This book had more sex in it, which I liked. I do wish she would make Rachel stronger that she does. Rachel doesnt need someone to save her all the time, she is a WITCH! She should be strong and powerful. No spoilers, but for you who have been dying to know just what/who Trent is, they tell you in this book! YAY! I really want Trent and Rachel to be together. They would make a great couple. I have the next book on the way, I will read the rest of the series.

When I read the first book in this series I wasn't sure I would keep reading but the last 1/3 of the book really got me hooked and I had to get the 2nd book to find out what happened. I'm sure glad I did. I love Rachel's character...she's strong willed but realizes she's not invincible. I will be interested to find out more about her relationships with Trent and also with Kistan. I'm liking both of those characters and she supposedly can't stand either one of them, but I bet that will change as the books go on.
We learn more about the vampires...living and undead. I'm still a bit confused on how it all works but I'm learning as I go. And what will happen with Big Al??? Hmmm.
After reading this book, I can't wait to get book #3.

This book picks up where the first book in the series ended and because it had been so long since I read book #1, and my memory isn't what it once was, it was a bit disconcerting.
Once things got going, I thought this was a solid installment in the series but I've read other reviews which say it has a lot of humor and I didn't find it. The pace was very slow far too often and the book would really benefit from some dark edged humor. So far, this isn't a "must read" series for me. Hopefully, they'll get better from here.

Yup, really like this series and Harrison. Besides a good story, she is a good writer.

While I liked the first book in the series, I thought this one was much better. You definitely need to read Dead Witch Walking to be able to understand this book though. This time there is a serial killer on the loose and Rachel is called in to help investigate. The investigation takes many twists and turns that keep you wondering who is responsible. I love complex characters and their relationships in this series.
In the second installment of the series, Kim Harrison brings another wonderful story with Rachel Morgan to print. The main thread of the story involves a serial killer, whose chosen victims are ley line witches. The author manages to craft a story where, as Rachel solves the crime, we the readers learn more about Rachel, Ivy, Trent, and demons.
I found the storyline engaging enough, but the characters really made the story for me. My favorite new characters are Rachel's mom and Glenn. Harrison even nails the minor characters - the werewolves are human enough to blend in society, but wolf enough to be scary.
I strongly recommend this book for any fantasy book lover.

Through a series of accidents while learning a new for of magic Rachel accidently makes her boyfriend, Nick, her familiar, finds out what race Trent is, a closely hidden secret, and makes a deal with Big Al the demon from the first book.

This is the second book in "The Hollows" series and I found it to be just as enjoyable as the first. Three months after the events in "Dead Witch Walking," Rachel Morgan (a white witch and supernatural bounty-hunter) is paired with a human detective to catch a serial killer who brutally murders ley line witches. Rachel is still spunky and getting into trouble with vampires and demons. She goes back to college to flush-out a murder suspect, and learns that in addition to earth magic, she also has a talent for ley line magic (which she uses with both good and bad results). Interestingly, all of Rachel's relationships seem to be getting more complicated; Ivy is struggling to remain a non-blood-drinking vampire, Nick is practicing black magic and slowly losing his soul to a demon, and Captain Edden doesn't wholly trust Rachel's ethics.
The story is entertaining, but the writing left me a little confused... For example, there are some events that are built-up but have no resolution (like the Takata concert Rachel was ecstatic about seeing, but it was never mentioned again if she went or not). Also, the characters are given some extra depth but the changes feel too extreme and opposite from what was already established in the first book. Is Trent still an evil crimelord, or is he a charming humanitarian? Is Ivy a confident and self-sufficient woman, or a fragile victim? The blurring of the line between friend and enemy is confusing but also strangely intriguing. Regardless, I'm curious to see what happens in the next book.
Overall, "The Good, The Bad, and The Undead" was a fun read and a nice mix of Stephanie Plum & Anita Blake. A great book if you're looking for an occult mystery with just a bit of romance.

She can handle the leather-clad vamps and even tangle with a cunning demon or two. But a serial killer who feeds on the experts in the most dangerous kind of black magic is definitely pressing the limits.
