Mazer writes about Karin Levi during German-occupied Paris of June, 1940. Mazer's story tells how Karin's family is torn apart; maman becoming ill, her older brother & herself as Jews being on the run, seeking safety wherever they can find it. Eventually, they seek safety aboard a ship bound for Oswego, New York in the U.S.
Mazer writes with simplicity. The reader is easily drawn into the story. A great read for anyone.
