Lighthearted and pleasurable to read, this is a book to take on vacation or to relax with before bed. The characters are people you would like to spend more time with and I found myself reluctant to leave them at the end of the book.
Down and out financier hits the motherload; property in France, a winery, and a couple of cute girls, too! Just a slight hint of intrigue and fairly likeable characters makes me wish I'd inherited a winery too!
Better than the movie but kind of slow. Great if you want to learn about wine
A very nice read. Next best thing to travelling in Provence. Good story.
This is one of the most fun books I've read in a long time. I love Peter Mayle and this book is one of his best! You will enjoy this book from beginning to end. It's a great entertaining read. The characters are wonderfully developed and you'll feel like you know them personally. This book is a perfect read for vacation... Or if you feel like you need a vacation... You'll be transported to Provence!
I bought a copy of this book for my dad, and he loved it too. I gave my copy to a friend who also enjoyed it.

You know once you get over the idea of Russell Crowe playing the lead in the movie and get a bit more realistic then this book is real good. No, it's not that I don't appreciate Russell Crowe and no I didn't see the movie version (why would you when you have this great book?). Good, light read (don't take it literally) for a summer or weekend read.
Really enjoyed this light reading. Very different plot from the Russell Crowe movie based loosely on the novel. Both were fun.
Great, light summer read
Good read - very quick. I read it in about 3.5 hours.
A light-hearted story for someone interested in wine or vineyards or living in Provence, France. Only 287 pages.
Better than the movie, not surpringly
If you love wine and Italy, you'll love this book.
Easy read and a fun story. Travel with Max from rainy England to sunny Provence. Much better then the movie, but then again most books are.
Really good read!
