Having read several gout cookbooks that did not explain the illness properly, this book is almost overkill. The author gives the same information in several ways; some might find this repetition helpful.

The author addresses the misconceptions and myths about gout well. She explains the problems of gout and how diet affects uric acid. She also explains what high-purine foods are and how to avoid them. She describes the benefits of going on a low-purine diet. The following chapters cover breakfast, lunch, dinner, dessert, and snack recipes for a low-purine diet.

The author includes a variety of beverages that are helpful with this diet. There is even a section on portable lunches and kid-friendly snacks. The author includes a section on money-saving ideas while on this diet. Finally, a 28-day meal plan is included. By the time you read the final chapter on lifestyle tips for managing gout, you have already read them in other sections, but the ideas are organized in a section specific to your health. This book is better than most of the ones I've previously read about gout.
