Christian fiction romance set in the west. Not sure but I'd guess around mid 1800's. Woman is held hostage in a camp of bandits and of course falls in love with one and vice versa! I like the twist in this story and how it unravels but don't think it's one I'd read again.

This is a very good book. The characters are interesting and the story just pulls you in. I started reading Janette Oke's books when I was about 13 and this is one that I just read over and over. Great for young teens all the way through adulthood.

This story is a wonderful example of God's sovereignty and His ability to look after His own. The turns that the story takes holds your attention, and the undertone of faith can encourage readers both young and old. I've read the book several times and have enjoyed it every single time.

My first time reading one of Janette Oke's books. Not a book with lots of suspense that drives you crazy but a nice little mystery that keeps you interested. The title was a mystery to me until halfway through the book; just didn't register. Guess I'm a little slow. Good book.

A heritage so very different from her own, but one profound connection -
Ariana loves her life her parents, her little town, her job as the town's schoolteacher, her students. But one evening after classes are done and she prepares to hurry home before a blizzard hits, her whole life changes in an instant.
The two rough-looking men who abduct her and take her far from home and family make no response to her frantic questions "Why me? What are you going to do? Where are you taking me?" Held hostage in a camp of bandits, Ariana's emotions swing between terror and boredom as days stretch into weeks.
And then the boss's son appears in the doorway of her cabin. Does this mean she will never see her mother and father again, the two who had so lovingly adopted her as an infant and raised her as their own? Will she ever wear the wedding dress so carefully saved for her her one link with her birth parents, now long dead?

This book was another really good one by Janette Oke. Ariana is kidnapped by a band of outlaws for no apparent reason (although reader has witnessed the leader having a conversation about it, so we know why). The son of the leader is assigned to taking care of the captive, and she shows him that there is more to the Bible than just being a normal book. He looks into it more, and realizes he'll have to help her escape. It's a really good story.

This Western with a Christian theme and as many plot twists as a mountain trail takes young schoolteacher Ariana Benson through a kidnapping; love with an outlaw-turned-rescuer; disappointment; and, finally, happiness. (Was there any doubt?) Aimee Lilly's intense narration captures the outlaws' spirits, as well as Ariana's initial despair and later happiness.

FROM THE PUBLISHER
Ariana Benson loves her life -- her parents, her town, her new job as schoolteacher. But her nearly perfect life changes in an instant when two tough-looking characters abduct her from the schoolhouse in the midst of a blizzard. Ariana's frantic questions are ignored as she's taken farther and farther from home, eventually to a camp of outlaws whose motives Ariana dares not imagine. Then Laramie appears at her door, assigned to be her guard. He doesn't seem to share the temperament of his violent companions. Could he be Ariana's only chance for escape?

I am grateful that God kept nudging me to give Janette Oke's books one more chance. I had read all but two of the Women of the West books about ten years ago, but when I re-read the first two books last year, I found myself disappointed: The books were not just simple and sweet, but simplistic and saccharine. This book, on the other hand, was grittier and more real; the characters actually struggle with God's plans for their lives, as do most of us here in the real world. I did have a question or two about Oke's definition of pemmican (I think she meant jerky) and her use of outlandish dialects for the outlaws and the Native Americans, but the book was still satisfying, at least spiritually.
