This is my favorite of the author's novels. The main character moves through life with a silence worthy of attention, which she finally receives from the voices of the dead.

I think Reynolds' greatest writing talent is her ability to create unforgettable characters. Finch, the main character in this book, is no exception. She's strong-willed, she's sympathetic, she's brave to do all she must do in the face of mockery. Highly recommended.

Badly burned in a household accident when she was a child, Finch Nobles grows into a courageous and feisty loner who eschews the pity of her hometown and discovers that she can hear the voices of the people buried in her father's cemetery. I enjoyed this book very much. It is well written with characters who come alive (especially if you've ever lived in a small town). I loved Finch because she isn't perfect, and not just in appearance. All the characters have their flaws, and that include the inhabitants of the cemetery. There were very small parts of the book that disturbed me, but that only brought the story alive even more because it makes the story more real. The book is also full of laughs, and you may even shed a few tears. I highly recommend it to readers who like literature set in small towns and/or books with just a bit of fantasy without being truly in that genre. By the author of "The Rapture of Canaan."

I loved this book so much I hate to part with it. But all great books must be shared. The story is so wonderful. It is sad, happy and "different" all at the same time. Very easy book to read and get into. I read in one day. I will remember the characters as real people whom i've now met and I wish that the author would continue with a series with these "people". I want more!

This book seems like it would be decent, but we had a recent death in the family and the whole "talking to dead people in the graveyard" thing was just not something I could handle emotionally at this time. I only read the first chapter.

Sheri Reyonolds is not for everyone, but I for one adore her books. Her subject matter is a little unusual, but her style is wonderful. Just like "The Rapture of Canaan" I couldn't put it down.

Really intense novel about a damaged young woman-from the same author as The Rapture of Canaan.

I LOVED this book!! Maybe as much,or more than The Rapture of Canaan..?? This author does such a wonderful job painting out the characters, you can't help but fall in love with them and the story. I love Reynold's writing style!

A thoughtful story at a leisurely pace, much the like the South where it is set. A story about growth and possibilites and a main character who is the caretaker of a cemetary.

Excellent book, if you only read one book this year, this one should be it. A rich look into the loneliness and dispair of those who went before us and how one slip of a girl can help make them feel good. Wonderful don't miss read.

Excellent read! I am now a diehard Sheri Reynolds fan! Almost as good as her two other books, "Rapture of Canaan" and "Bitteroot Landing." The author's character development is incredible! You live in their world and resent coming back to reality!

I lvoe Finch!! What a great book. I just found it this week at the library and although it's not the type of book I normally read (not a mystery or thriller), something about it caught my attention. Thank goodness! I really loved this character and even Leonard, in all his stumbling, bumbling good-heartedness.

This book was very odd in context but still great. I read it fairly quickly, and you really didn't want to put it down. There are a few interesting surprises in there.

Fascinating story about a young lady who communicates with the dead, and all the troubles that go along with such a 'gift'. I loved the characters, both living and dead. Very quick read.
