We are grandparents in a pinch! Our daughter is newly divorced and decided she's "missed" her youth & is making some questionable decisions. In the meanwhile, we haven't been allowed to see our grand kids. I'll have to give the ex son-in-law a try next, but we're not holding our breath there either. Any suggestions are greatly appreciated. Or any current good books on the subject, maybe with legal advise???? |

I dont know what i would do with out my mom. I never try to just ask her to have my daughter over or my son. She oferes, one weekend since my guy had to work that night and i had to work that day...so she took them first thing in they day all day and night. It was weird being home alone but i loved it kind of. Her choices are hers but just let her know that you are there for the kids. then she can go and make those made chocie well the kids are safe with grandma/pa time. Try and open the door for her to talk why she is not wanting you to spend time with the kids, it might help getting that time. I loved getting to stay over grandma and grandpa or go out to eat with them. i would never take that from my daughter/son. i only have her too no other grandparents. Did she have that kind of time grown up? |

Grandparents have very few rights in this country. If you can show that both parents are unfit, don't want the kids or if both parents die, Grandparents have the right to be next in line as custodians, but until then, not so much. I agree with Heather Make yourself avialable to babysit or keep the kids for an overnight or a weekend so your daughter has free time for her bad choices. It's not what you want for your daughter, of course, but you can't control her choices, and it does keep the kids safer and well cared for. Perhaps she will eventually start to make better choices again. |
