If you like this type of book...Native American...this is a good read. I read it many years ago, so I don't remember details, but I liked it enough to read it twice more, and put it on my shelf as a KEEPER.

From the lore of her people , the Sioux, Susan Power has forged a remarkable novel, rich with drama and infused with the magic of the everyday. Set on a North Dakota reservation, The Grass Dancer weaves the stories of the old and the young, of broken families, romantic rivals, men and women in love and war. Reaveling the harsh proce of unfulfilled longings and the healing power of mystery and hope , it takes the readers through both past and present -in a tale as a reasonant and haunting as an ancestor's memory , and as promising as a child's dream .

Reminiscent of Louisie Erdrick's "Love Mediine", this collection of short stories bounces through time, centering on various incidents in the lives of several inter-related characters. I think my favorite is "Moonwalk", in which the family members of an old woman are seeing her through the last few hours of her life on earth while also keeping an eye on the first televised moonwalk.

An interesting book where every chapter is told in a different point of view of a different character. It's a bunch of short stories where the timelines jump around but in the end, it all comes together.

I never finished this book. It kind of moves backwards in time.

READ BY THE AUTHOR

"A story of Sioux mythology interwoven with contemporary lives that touch the heart"

I enjoy the writing of Susan Power, who is a member of the Standing Rock Sioux tribe. This is a good abridgement of her first novel, and I believe that the author reading her own writing is a 'plus', in this case.

If you like the novels or Sherman Alexie or Louise Erdrich, I believe you will like those of Susan Power.

Haven't read this but still might (so many on my TBR).
From the back cover -
"Set on a North Dakota reservation, The Grass Dancer weaves the stories of the old and the young, of broken families, romantic rivals, men and women in love and at war...in a tale as resonant and haunting as an ancestor's memory and as promising as a child's dream".
