Not one of the best books I've read and is about the same style of read as the first in the series: quick and simple. The author continues to avoid using words and phrases native to the culture and detailed descriptions of the area, which would give it a better feel for the Japanese setting in which the story takes place, so that does leave it feeling a bit generic at times. But, since it is a fast read, I'll finish the series up by reading the third book after this since I have it on hand.

Part 2 of the Tales of The Otori, this book is every bit as good as the first in the series. Great characterization and sense of place (medieval Japan). Although I think it could have been shortened quite a bit without losing much, it was a fairly quick read. Since much of the "history" is completely fabricated, the book almost seems more of an historical fantasy than history (complete with a Ninja-type hero who can go invisible and project images of himself to confuse an enemy). That's not necessarily a complaint, merely an caution for those who prefer their historical novels to be more factual and accurate.

This is book two of a trilogy. Amazing story of early Japan and the people who fought to make it what it is today. The courage and beliefs that shape the characters is very believable,I am on my way to ordering book three. Very well written and entertaining.Through the whole story is an amazing love,non-shakeable loyalties and strength that builds instead of destroys. The writer really paints the picture in each scene,it takes you there immediately.

The continuing story of the Otori. I thought it was less impressive than the first one but still worth the effort to see how things progress in this world.
