It's Scotland 1840. Lady Kiera Darby comes to her childhood home after a disastrous marriage. Moving in with her beloved brother, Trevor, she hopes to recover her mental balance. Trevor has always been there for her and stood up for her no matter what happened. And, she can enjoy the merry activities of Hogmanay Hall.
The murder of a caretaker and disturbance of a grave in nearby Dryburgh Abbey finds thrust into an inquiry to discover who and why these events happened. Doing so will only tarnish her reputation more. She had worked a previous case with Gage who appears to investigate again. Her heart is drawn to the dark handsome Gage but it's far too soon following her marriage to become involved.
Of course, there is much more to the story. Besides romance, murder and mayhem the reader learns much about Scottish culture. Colorful characters scatter throughout the story which is so well written by one of my favorite historical mystery authors. Really an interesting read. Can't believe I put this book on my TBR in 2015 and am just now finished it. Yet it took me that long to get the book.

The first couple of chapters dragged for me until Gage entered the picture. To be honest, I'm more interested in the progress of the relationship between him and Kiera than I was in the mystery. However there were some interesting developments and I ended up really enjoying the book.
Love this series!
