An engaging and comical adventure of a boy and his butler determined to find gold and save the family estate. Great for the whole family!
Classic Gold Rush adventure story, written in 1963. Perfect for any 12 year old who wants to travel somewhere with their butler.
Back of book says: The year is 1849 and the California Gold Rush is on. together with his intrepid butler Praiseworthy, young Jack Flagg sets out to save his pretty Aunt Arabella's fortune. On a ship bound from Boston to the California gold fields, they stow away in potato barrels...and their wild, swasbuckling adventures begin.
I say: This is the book from which Disney's film "Adventures of Bullwhip Griffin" came. Lots of fun, good plot, lots of historical detail.

This would be a good book to teach kids about The Gold Rush. It centers around Jack and a butler named Praiseworthy, who travel to the gold fields to try to make a fortune. They sail with many unsavory characters and meet many more as they try to find gold.
Praiseworthy, a butler who more than lives up to his name, is Jack's protector and partner. They get in many scrapes and adventures along the way as they try to strike it rich.
An enjoyable adventure story.

this is an older child's book but I enjoyed it as an adult too. It is unabridged. Full cast audio if you appreciate that. It is a fun story about a boy and his butler who head out on a gold rush of California adventure. Kind of clean cut, sweet type of story.
Very interesting. My children loved this book.
