This is a work of fiction, based on the life of a real person - Emily "Emy" Lyon, who later changed her name to Emma and eventually became Lady Emma Hamilton, wife of Britain's Lord William Hamilton, and who later became the lover of Britain's beloved navy hero, Lord Horatio Nelson. While the work itself is fiction, it is extensively researched and delightful to read. Written in the first person, Emma tells her tale of survival, love, lust, and victory. A delightful read for lovers of late eighteenth century historical fiction.

A well-written, well-researched, and interesting book. It was a little slow, at times, and I think would have been as good, or better, with a little less historical detail! It sometimes seemed more a history book than a novel!
