This was an interesting story of the mid 40s. Horseless carriages, Oklahoma plains, women that didn't work; it was definitely a trip through time. Sawyer is a young woman who has no positive male role models growing up. In a day where women lived to get married and have children this didn't set her up well. She learns quickly that not all men are wonderful and honest.

This story is about a government run lottery for land to settle the Oklahoma plains. The people taking part in the lottery build a small town up from nothing. This story shows you a little bit of what it must have been like before cars were common place, before air conditioning, before sprinkler systems and fire trucks. It was a long story, but entertaining.
