I've not seen the movie, but the novel is complex and rewarding. It does address some of the tough issues surrounding incarceration and the death penalty. That's okay, the issue is addressed from many sides and is enlightening.

Im not to sure how I feel about this book. I only read it because I really loved the movie. I enjoy reading the books that movies I love are made from because I like to get all of the extra details. This book really sort of mirrored the movie and most of the added elements are things that I really could have done without. Still I am glad I got the chance to read it.

One of the greatest books I have ever read. You love the charcters or you really hate them, but you feel something for every charcter involved, including the loveable little mouse Mr.Jingles.

The 6-part boxed set novel that sent chills down my spine the first time I read it. John Coffey is about to walk the Green Mile to the electric chair. Did he really do it or was he in the wrong place at the wrong time?
The book is perhaps more suspenseful than the movie. The charters are more fully drawn and every book is harder to read as you are drawn more fully into the horror of The Green Mile.

I really enjoyed the story. Couldn't put it down. Just the right amount of creepy and strange.
"The Green Mile" is one of my favorite books. Though it's only the third King novel that I've read, I think it's safe to say that this is one of his best works. I've read "Carrie" and "The Girl Who Loved Tom Gordon," and both are great reads, but "The Green Mile" is my favorite King book so far.
The story runs the gamut of emotions. From the sick feeling when the reader finds out about the grisly deaths of two young girls, to the sorrow you feel when you realize what might have really happened and the joy experienced when an old friend is revealed near the end of the story. There are some great characters here as well, fleshed out to perfection so that the reader feels the emotions of each character. We are introduced to Paul Edgecombe, who is writing this serial, the enigmatic John Coffey, Brutal, Dean, Percy, the psychotic Wild Bill, and, of course, the simple Cajun man, Delacroix, and his best friend, Mr. Jingles.
As the story unfolds, you can't help but feel for the characters. I don't want to give away too many details, since most folks have probably read this book already or at least have seen the movie. All you really need to know is that these are some of the most emotion-laden characters you'll ever meet. For instance, you'll instantly feel sad for John Coffey and his tear-filled eyes as he asks Edgecombe if there's a light kept on at night because he is afraid of the dark. You'll also hate one particular character and probably rejoice when he gets his just desserts via a set-up partially pulled off with the help of Coffey.
Pick this one up if you want to read a great story. It isn't scary, which King is most known for, but it's just a wonderful tale that will move even the hardest heart to tears.

Brilliant story told only as Stephen King can.
There is a reason why Stephen King is so popular. Sure, he's had a few missteps but when King is on top of his game, he is quite simply one of the best. He has an uncanny ability to create characters who live and breathe. Even when I dislike the overall plot lines, I am drawn to King's works because the characters are so inviting and the experiences they have are so human. King makes this look easy, which I'm sure it isn't...I highly recommend it to fans and non-fans alike.

I liked this Stephen King very much. It was not a horror story like his others, but very very compelling nonetheless.
The setting is the small "death house" of a Southern prison in 1932. The Green Mile is the hall with a floor "the color of tired old limes" that leads to "Old Sparky" (the electric chair). The charming narrator is an old man, a prison guard, looking back on the events decades later.
Not your average Stephen King. I loved the book! So much better than the movie!

I was very impressed to see that the movie was pretty much exactly like the book. There were a few more details in the book but overall, I enjoyed the book.
There is so much feeling in these pages, that it is hard to describe. You will feel lots of emotion while reading this book. This is a book about the supernatural, as opposed to straight-up horror. True to King's style are the characters...you love them or you hate them. You always care about his characters one way or the other. There is no indifference while reading a Stephen King book and this book is probably the best example of that.

King became too wordly in many of his books, but not in this one, full of suspense and a really great read, a movie was made of this but the book is better!
King really shows his chops as a great storyteller in The Green Mile. I loved this book and all of its little, intertwining stories. A great read, start to finish. King might be a "horror" guy, but this book is just great American literature.
