This is a wonderful fantasy series. Simon, Jane and Barney are enlisted by their mysterious great-uncle to help fight the forces of evil, the Dark. Will Stanton, who appears to be an ordinary child, but is the last-born of the immortal Old Ones and therefore, not really an ordinary child at all, is also joining forces with them. They fight fear and death in the darkly brooding Welsh hills, in a quest through time and space that touches the most ancient myths of the British Isles.

A beautiful three part series - this is book 2.
The fourth book of the Dark Is Rising sequence brings us back to Will Stanton, and a very gripping story line. I have quite enjoyed this book.
Fourth in Susan Cooper's wonderful "The Dark is Rising" series, dealing with the ancient magic of Britain. Newberry Award Winner. Recommended!
There is a legend in North Wales about a harp of gold, hidden within a certain hill, that will be founs by a boy and a white dog with silver eyes-a dog that can see the wind. Will Stanton knew nothing of this when he came to Wales to recuperate from a severe illness. But when he met a strange boy named Bran and Bran's white dog Cafall, he began to remember. For Will was no ordinary boy, but the last born of the Old Ones, servants of the Light, immortals dedicated to saving the world from domination by the force of evil, the Dark.
A boy recuperating from a serious illness comes to Wales only to find that he's destined to fulfill an ancient Welsh legend.
Story of Will, the last born of the Old Ones, immortals dedicated to saving the world from the forces of evil.
I thought the Dark is Rising series was awesome. I liked it better then my 12 yo son did, but he liked it too.
