Goofball fantasy
This book is simultaneously, a satire on the Hobbit, some of my favorite cop fiction, and some of my fantasy fiction. A strange combination I know, but somehow it works.
The dedication reads
They may be called the Palace Guard, the City Guard or the patrol. Whatever the name their purpose in any work of heroic fantasy is identical: it is, round about Chapter Three (or ten minutes into the film) to rush into the room, attack the hero one at a time, and be slaughtered. No one ever asks them if they wanted to.

This was a great book if you like parody type humor. Terry Pratchett is great for taking the things we see everyday and putting a spin to them. Science fiction with humor.
A nice, thick read... very funny and very thoughtful. I really enjoyed it, and the neat little shifts the story made. Very cool.
Excellent, witty, and fun. Just like you'd expect Pratchett to be.
Not as funny or as clever as some of his other books, but it's still Pratchett who, even at his less-than-best, is still pretty darn good.
