"Guilt" is one of those books that keeps pushing you to read "just one more chapter."
If you read the back cover, it is about a murder, but we don't get THAT murder until page 300. The set up is worth the read. Lescroart populates his novels with plenty of interesting characters and motives.
The gist if the book is a successful lawyer is indicted for murdering his wife. You know the book is heading in this direction, but when you get to that point you are still wondering if he did or didn't kill her.

A GREAT THRILLER
Rec'd this book before I discovered it was Bk 2 of a series so I went back & got Bk 1 " A Certain Justice". I'm so glad I did because the series is good, especially this second book. Holds you right on the edge of your seat. I can't wait to get my hands on Bks 3 & 4.

The Upfield Napoleon Bonaparte series give a great feel for the setting of early to mid 20th century Australia but are generally a little weak in plot. Good light read.
Good mystery /suspense. Kept my interest!
This is a pretty good book. It deals with Lawyers and such and I kind of got lost in some of the terms, but it is a good read.
This book features Abe Glitsky, an important character in the long-running Dismas Hardy mystery series. Although this book was published after A CERTAIN JUSTICE (billed as "Abe Glitsky, Bk.1") the events described took place prior to those of the earlier book. A brief reference near the end of this book tries to tie everything together. But a few times while reading this book, I said "Wait a minute, that hasn't happened yet," or "No, that had to have happened several years ago." I wonder if the author got some of the plot details mixed up, or if I did? In any case, it's good writing, good story-telling, and an intriguing and Abe's a gradually-endearing lead character.

Lescroart continues with his excellent series built around his main characters of Glitsky, Hardy, et. al.. He's to be commended in that I have yet to catch a flavor of him "manufacturing" books to meet deadlines. So many popular authors do that - you can easily tell when the deadline is looming in the change in pace in the book; the dropped-off attention to detail, seeming to suddenly come to the end of the book, with little closure, after getting engaged. Lescroart doesn't do this. "Guilt" and all this other books are terrific in the way they take you into the lives of the characters, maintain the mystery to such a strong degree, and give endings that are more closely what you might imagine real life to be - not a "Perry Mason" ending - but one that tends to make you think, and miss the story thread when you're done. Highly recommend the book!

Mark Dooher has a successful legal career, a long-lasting marriage, charm, good looks, and money; but when he meets young, beautiful law student Christina Carrera, he wants her, too. The author of A Certain Justice (LJ 7/95) has Mark manage, through a series of devious manipulations, to rid Christina of her fiance, get her a job at his firm, and make her fall in love with him. But there is the troublesome matter of his wife, whom he cannot divorce because of his important professional relationship with the city's archbishop. Then his wife turns up conveniently murdered, and the resulting trial could turn out to be Mark's greatest challenge yet. This original, well-crafted page-turner is blockbuster material. Highly recommended.
