I read the first three of these books and I really wanted to like them. The tea stuff was quaint, the characters were cute, but eventually the prose and the absolute charming banality of the characters made it all so impossible to read. And I really really wanted to like them.
Also, the recipe for lemon curd in the back of one of the first three is a travesty. TRAVESTY! Do not make lemon curd in a blender with the whole egg -- if you're going to do that, just buy it in a jar from the store.

I enjoyed this second book in the series far more than the first. The characters of Theodosia, Drayton, and Haley seemed better-defined and felt like I could predict what they would say or think a little quicker than I could with the first teahouse mystery.
This is a light, fun, enjoyable little mystery that reads quick and will leave you with a taste for tea.

Laura Childs has once again written a simple, quick read with an interesting plot.
Good light mystery; if you enjoy tea, and the accessories that surround it, you'll enjoy this book. Made an airplane trip go by much faster. Another in this author's series, which I enjoy.
Don't read it too soon after the 1st one. You may be distracted by some of the proofing goofs.
Gunpowder Green is the 2nd book in a series of the Tea Shop Mystery. The Indigo Tea Shop owner, Theodosia Browning, is catering a "Tea by the Sea" during a annual yacht race when suddenly a newlywed local man is killed. Great mystery in the style of Laura Childs which I enjoyed just as much as her first mystery, Death by Darjeeling. Enjoyed the story and was not expecting the ending. Look forward to the next book.

This is a series of simple little mysteries featuring Theodesia Browning, owner of Indigo Tea Shop in Charleston, SC. This is the second of the series. Theodesia, Drayton and Haley are attending and dispensing various teas at the annual yacht race. As Theodesia watches, Oliver Dixon dies in what seems like a tragic accident. Theodesia just doesn't buy it and does her own investigating. She finds too many suspects and too many clues but finally sets a trap for the killer and nearly ends up a victim too! A simple little murder mystery - fun but not deep.
Second in the Tea Shop Mysteries. Another well done cozy by Ms. Childs. A decent plot, a few new characters plus the old favorites from book 1 in the series, Death by Darjeeling.
Fun read. My first tea shop mystery and it was enjoyable without the other books. Not the most complicated story but I am more interested now about tea.
This book was SO much better than the first in the series. But even this story was only a little more interesting. There is only one mystery - a murder that happens at the beginning of the book - and there are no layers of intrigue. The characters are not well formed and are very predictable. The 30-something main character tries to contain her naturally curly auburn locks. The young assistant bursts into tears at the slightest confusion..... Anyway, even if you love mysteries and tea (I love mysteries and tea!) you might want to find a different book to read. Maybe the THIRD book in the series will be better. I'm afraid I have it in my stack and I'm determined to soldier through it. But not until I read a few real books first.

Another good, leisurely read from the author. There isn't anything terribly complicated about this book. But, that is part of its appeal for me - I read these books as an escape from thinking! Theodosia continues to be likable, as do the other characters.
My only issue is that, at times, this book reads more like a tourist guide to Charleston. I like descriptions of the surrounding environment in books, but this one can be really over the top in terms of the detail about South Carolina. Detail that, really, doesn't add anything to the narration.
Also, fair warning, the characters are all quaintly charming. In fact, at times, they're a bit too charming and "genteel." However, having spent a good portion of my life in the deep south ... this quaint charm isn't all that removed from reality.
I give it 3 stars. Still, I will continue getting the series from my library and reading it.

This is the second book in the series, and it had been a couple of years since I had read the first one. Didn't take long to remember the characters and get back into the setting of the tea shop in Charleston. It is a cute series and one I will continue reading to the end.

I Love all the tea talk amoungst figuring out the mystery. Oh I'd Love to visit Charleston if it wasn't so darn humid! The tea shop is describe so wonderfully I wish it was a real place.

If you love the tea shop mysteries you need to continue with the series. Wonderful book. Fast pace- did not know who did it until the very end.

Just finished the first book in the series within the last month and put the second one on my paperbackswap.com wish list. Just finished Gunpowder Green a couple days ago. Like most "cozy" mysteries that I've read, this isn't great literature. It's a quick, easy read and sometimes that's what I want.

I've read several of the Tea Shop series. Very interesting story of yachting, old weapons, gardens, and of course teas and pastries.
interesting... the "light" variety of crime novels. set in charleston where the protagonist owns a tea shop. nice descriptions although to me it's slightly "too" precious in style, but if you ignore some of that, interesting. laura childs is also monica wilcott and has a set of knitting novels
