I loved the title and the concept of this book! I just wish I had known going in that there was a sequel because the cliffhanger ending left me with lots of questions (and to be frank, slightly confused). Jack (the son of the beanstalk one) stumbles over a princess and somewhat reluctantly joins her quest to find her grandmother. Along the way they encounter the Wolf King, Prince Philip, the Red Hood, the Wicked Queen, a mysterious knight, Rapunzel, and Snow White. Everything is not as it first appears and the shifting alliances had me as a 38 year old reader slightly bewildered. Perhaps open-minded younger readers will be less concerned with who the "good guys" and "bad guys" are. However, my 9 year old also rated it 3 stars.
