Not a badly written story but definitely a secular retelling of the story of Mary and Joseph. I had a hard time with Berg's portrayal of Joseph as a man who right up until his death didn't believe in his son's divinity or that his wife truly gave birth as a virgin.

Read over the holidays and enjoyed it for its many historical tidbits, but also quite entertaining and touching!

Very intimate experience showing the love and contentment of Jesus's earthly parents, Mary and Joseph. Jesus was one of many children and Joseph was skeptical of Mary's love in the beginning but in time, this became something that didn't matter in their relationship. Very good book on the the romance of his parents!
Elizabeth Berg brings Joseph and Mary to life in this wonderful story of their love and devotion to each other through out their lives even though Joseph has doughts of Mary's story of Jesus' creation. She writes of the lives of the people of this time and brings reality to the story of their lives. I found the book very enjoyable.
An insult to Scripture and the true story of the Lord's birth.
Interesting take on an old story
I didn't particularly like the book and didn't feel it was up to Elizabeth Berg's usual standards. I am a big fan of her other books and have read them all.
