Basic retelling of the Grimm story, there'snot really a lot that is "witty" as James Marshall sometimes has it. (That's good, I think, one should not tinker too much with original fairy tales). It's the evil stepmother who convinces dad to get rid of the kids in this one. Women do not come out too favorably in this version.
