This is one of the most unique books I have read in years. The story, told in first person, is tragic and heartbreaking, yet the reader cannot help but feel oddly uplifted by the protagonist's sunny outlook. The writing is beautiful, and the narrator's innocence despite all the tragedy in her life is touching. Although disturbing, this slim little novel is a must read.
