I have enjoyed reading C. S. Forester's Hornblower series. After recently rediscovering Hornblower on DVD with Ioan Gruffudd and Robert Lindsay portraying the early years of Hornblower's career, I wanted to reread the entire series. This is a great series of books filled with not only historically accurate events but also adventure and action. The characters are well drawn and Hornblower himself is an interesting man, bold and unrelenting at sea but a shy and self doubting man on land. His mismanagement of his life on shore only emphasizes his heroics as as an officer. A series and a character that is well worth the time in getting to know.
