Futuristic Erotic romance from Samahain. Earth has been attacked by Aliens who plan to colonize the planet for thier own people. Only humans with some sort of psychic ability have survived, and they have gone into hiding in remote locations, and women are scarce. One such family is Caleb, his two brothers and his wife Jane. Caleb has visions of the future, and comes to realize that he has to share Jane with his brothers, in order to save both his family, and all of humanity. Jane is willing, but the brothers need to be convinced, at first. The author goes to great lengths to make all characters noble, likeable and sympathetic. This books seems to be first of a series. This book is fair.

What a disappointment. I read a short story by Bianca D'Arc and really enjoyed it but I read 3/4 of this book and decided it was a waste of time to finish it. The characters were really flat and uninteresting. They seemed to just to a lot of whining. The sex scenes were dull and unimaginative. I was expecting a lot more creativity in that department. The story seems to drag on and a lot of the characters' thoughts were redundant. I keep getting a sense of deja vu and kept telling myself, "Didn't I just read about this three paragraphs ago?" I plan to give D'Arc another chance but this book is definitely not worth the read.

This story takes place on Earth in a contemporary world that has been almost destroyed by an Alien race. The O'Hara family used the precognitive abilities of the eldest brother to escape to the "Waste" where the three brothers and the wife of the eldest brother managed to survive the cataclysm. The world is a very different place and the family struggles to survive by taking some drastic steps following the visions of the brother. The brothers all end up with the wife but this is much more than a menage story. there is a great deal of world building and I am interested in how the author continues this new series.

I really enjoyed this book and look forward to seeing how the humans and aliens interact in future books as they (presumably) find a peaceful way to share the planet. I thought it was a nice twist that the aliens weren't made into big evil monsters (although that can make for fun reading too). They're human-like in appearance - tall with pointed ears, extremely analytical, and almost completely lacking when it comes to emotions (lol Spock comes to mind here!), but they're not out to just kill everyone willy nilly to have the planet all to themselves. They start off seeing humans as a primitive species, but discover that the remaining population is likely descended from their early explorers. This causes them to begin reevaluating how they view humans.

Although I discussed the aliens at length above, this book does not include constant day to day interactions with them. It's mainly about the couple (Jane and Caleb) and his two other brothers (Mick and Justin) and how they struggle to survive and thrive in their changed reality. I only wanted to add a bit to the good story descriptions written by the previous reviewers.

By the way, the next books in the "Resonance Mates" series are:
Davin's Quest: The story of Callie (empathic daughter born in bk 1), Davin (an Alvian engineer with naturally occuring emotions), and Richard St. John (human - tough survivor of the invasion that lived in the woods, and eluded capture until just before this book). Menage: m/f/m, no m/m

Jaci's Experiment: The story of Jaci (an Alvian who accidentally doses herself with a patch that unlocks the ability to feel emotions), David, and Michael (two humans that share a cell in the alvian compound). Menage: m/f/m, no m/m

Update - 8/19/09:
Grady's Awakening: The story of Gina (human martial arts expert that was taken captive, Grady Prime (top Alvian warrior that's been in all the books - good guy that willingly signs up for the emotion patch experiment so he can experience the feelings he's seen in the previously mated couples. You can tell in the other books that although he didn't have deep emotions, he still had some sense of longing for what the others had), and Jim (human - a former CIA agent that at one point trained with Gina before the aliens came). This book was released in e-book 8/18/09. The print version is supposed to be released "mid 2010".
