Two children who mysteriously disappeared twenty-one years ago are the last thing on Lorna Temple's mind when she returns to her Pennsylvania hometown to sell the old family property in the wake of her parents' passing. But instead of memories, the fields where Lorna grew up yield something utterly chilling.
All those years ago, when nine-year-old Melinda Eagan vanished on her birthday, her foulmouthed older brother, Jason, quickly became the lone suspect. Yet when he went missing, too, the case turned cold. But Jason, it seems, never got far: His bones have been moldering on the Temples' land for two decades. As far as the local police are concerned, the book is closed on Melinda's murder-and Jason's death is justice served. But Lorna refuses to let the dead rest uneasily. She turns to private eye T. J. Dawson to dig up the dirt of the past and see what lies beneath. Only there's someone out there who hasn't forgotten-and who won't be the least bit forgiving about being exposed as a killer.
In matters of crime, there are many versions of the truth.

Four stars. Good book. If you read Mariah Stewart, you will know that she has several series going. Once in a while a character from one series will appear from another series. Don't worry, she will tie things together.
There is a lot of action in this book, and a lot of twists and turns. As for the romance/suspense----well there is very little romance and a lot of suspense. No real surprise ending. Once you are familiar with her style of writing, you can almost guess some aspects of the ending. Enjoy the book and the series. It is a good one. Quick and easy read, great to take on the plane or to the beach.

Interesting lead character, and very good storyline..
An interesting book, that I enjoyed reading
Great book if you like mysteries! Children disappear years ago and bones found in the woods bring the case to the front again. Now there is someone out there who would like the dirt of the past to stay hidden. The ending surprised me completely and I loved it!
Lorna Temple returns to sell her childhood home and opens up a 21 year old murder. She turns to private eye T.J. Dawson to dig up the dirt of the past and see what lies beneath. Only problem is the someone out there who doesn't want to be exposed as the killer.
Part of the Truth series. Great series. Loved all four books.
If you like suspense and mysteries, you like anything that Mariah Stewart writes! Excellent book.
Very good. Can't wait for the next one.
Interesting book - enough that I want to read more by this author! I definitely did not guess the ending, altho I did figure out one of the subplots (I dont read in order to try and guess the ending - it jsut happens sometimes!). This is a book about an old missing persons case and how it finally comes to light due to land developement!
one of the "Truth" series -

crime thriller
Another excellent suspense mystery which I enjoyed immensely. This starts out with the disappearance of two children. Twenty-one years later, after the death of Lorna Temple's mother and a visit to her hometown, you begin to receive answers to a lot of questions pertaining to the body count that is rising. But who is telling the truth?
Characters from the previous book in this series will arise. This is an intense story line which will surprise you in the end. You may, of course, be an avid mystery reader and have figured it out before you reach the end; but it is worth the ride.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book, and have ordered others from this author. I would definitely recommend this author, and this book, to other readers.
Good read, interesting plot, rich scenery. I was a little disappointed by the minimal character development but overall it was a decent way to pass some time.
Good read
loved this book , you cant put it down.
2nd book in series.
Brand new book.. I started it.. finished it a few hours later. Best.

One of a series of 4 ..... I've read all of them and each one is better than the last.
Another engrossing mystery from Mariah Stewart. The "Truth" series doesn't have to be read in order, although it is probably better to do so.
Mystery studded romance.
This is the third "Truth" book by Stewart. They
can be read quickly and provide a good thriller
with a bit of non-steamy romance.

This is one of three "Truth" series - I have read the first two, which includes this one - both were excellent and am now reading the third one.

Roamtic Mystery; part of a series

Lorna Temple has come home to say goodbye to her mom,who has just died of cancer and to get the family home ready to be sold. She is a CPA and can run her business from wherever she is. A few days after she gets home a body is found on the land her family sold to pay her mother's doctor bills. Then another body is found, and then another. Finally four bodies are found.
T J Dawson is a private detective, who is suggested by her friend, Regan Landry. He is a former FBI agent and since selling his agency he is between jobs and willing to help Lorna.Because of the disappearance of her best friend when she was 9, Lorna wants to find some answers. Who was killing people and burying them on her family's farm 25 years ago.
Melinda Eagen and her brother Jason disappeared when Lorna was 9 and now the bones of one of the bodies proves to be Jason's. Their mother Billie Eagen is accused by the sheriff of the murder and arrested. Lorna finds out that her mother had befriended Billie, and when she talks to her she is convinced that she didn't do it. She knew that Billie had been an alcoholic and was abusive to her children. But the loss of her kids had caused her to stop drinking and clean up her act.
Now with more bodies, the deeper Lorna and TJ dig the more questions come up. Since the sheriff isn't willing to investigate more fully maybe Lorna and TJ have to. Someone is a serial killer and he is probably still around.
I enjoyed the story and I liked the way her books keep some characters from other stories. So we have a continuing thread in each novel
