Rowling's characters are really growing with the series. This one was pretty dark, but puts the characters to the test. These aren't just "kids" books but really good literature.

My favorite of the Harry Potter books. Exciting and dramatic - all Harry's friends get involved in this one - it's not just a Harry/Voldemort thing anymore!

I loved this installment of Harry Potter! The Order of the Phoenix focuses on the fight against Voldemort. I don't think its as dark as the Goblet of Fire, but you do see Harry and his friends finding themselves as teenagers (lots of angst!!!). It's one of the best books in the series.

How can I say anything bad about Harry Potter. I cut mt fantasy teeth and these books. Have read the entire series who knows how many times. Love them all! Great reads for everyone! *****CAUTION: I would mention that the further up the Harry Potter series goes, the more mature the subject matter. Before giving this book to a child, an adult should preview it.

I consider the Harry Potter series to be the best books I've ever read, and the Order of the Phoenix is one of my favorites. J.K. Rowling is an outstanding writer. These books deserve every ounce of publicity they've gotten over the years.

It's all been said before, but the Harry Potter series opens the door to a world of wonderful imagination, and genuine humanity. Are we all so jaded that we are deeply thrilled to discover that fine children's literature is still being written? Not just for children, though, this series is every bit as captivating for the adults as the little ones in your house. Hooray for the Boy Who Lived!

It was great - great character development and great to see how she edges the series into more mature, darker territories.

I will be honest and I think I have said this before I started reading Harry Potter because my friend harped on me about it. I also started reading it because I love Jason Issacs. And he plays Lucius Malfoy, and I am a weird person who wont watch a movie if I haven't read the book. Therefore, I began to read Harry Potter. In addition, low and behold as the books have gone on I find myself admitting I like them. Moreover, I say this grudgingly so when you hear me say I like it you know I speak the truth.

Harry Potter and the order of the Phoenix is the best book that I have read from the series. It gets darker and we get closer as always to lord Voldemort but he is always just out of reach. Ah but not to worry Hogwarts has another horrible evil doer to keep us occupied and cheesed off. The ministry of magic gives you there very own evil of Dolores Umbridge.

So simply said, well done J.K Rowling, even if there is one part in which I physically tossed the book across the room. If you have read the book, I think you know which part I am talking about. If not well, I will not ruin it for you. However, truly when I think about it the fact that I was so emotionally involved that I tossed the book means I was attached. This is the mark of a good book.

The Harry Potter series was definitely one of the best I've ever read... I had so much fun standing and waiting in line each time a new book came out, I'm really disappointed that the series is over, but it had a fantastic ending.

This was actually my favorite book in the HP series.

Potter's got a lot on his mind: a bad teacher, a mean elf, Ron on another quidditch team, end of term exams, not to mention He-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named. All resovled in the usual way. More fun for Potter fans.

I'm finally trying to catch up with the HP books so I can read 7 when it comes out and hopefully not have the ending spoiled. I really didn't care for book 4, so some of the "magic" had gone out of the series for me, but book 5 has redeemed the series for me. I feel like the author is finally moving the story forward again.

It's weird, I guess I've seen the movies too much now because when I am reading certain parts I hear that theme music in my head... no, I'm not crazy... much.

With Voldemort on the loose again, and The Order trying to protect everyone, while working under the nose of the Ministry in denial this proves to be an exciting, and nerve wracking read. Harry will never look at the world the same.

I felt great rage and anger while reading this book due solely to a character by the name of Umbridge. I wanted to scream and beat on her! I was very proud of Harry for controlling his temper with her better then I was! Fred and George are PRICELESS in this story and I cheered out loud with their grand exit. Well worth the anger and frustration to get through this story.

A good read as always, but not the best in the series. Climactic scenes are well done. Drags quite a bit. Not enough storyline to justify the length of the novel. It could have been 100 pages shorter. Film adaption was better than the book.

The Best of all the Harry Potter Books....
bran-flakes14 avatar reviewed Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix on + 72 more book reviews
The fifth book in the Harry Potter series is arguably the most devisive; it's the longest in the series, with almost 1,000 pages, and involves less fantastical adventure than previous or later installments, but personally I think it's one of the best in the series. After surviving horror after horror, and now having to accept and deal with the reemergence of Lord Voldemort, Harry has transformed into a bitter and angry 15 year old who frequently lashes out to even those who most love him. Adding to his stresses are the magical government's refusal to acccept Lord Voldemort's return, and thus launching a viscious smear campaign against Harry to turn others against him, too. J. K. Rowling is truly a master-writer, and this brick of a book proves that the story she is telling across seven volumes is truly archaic and timeless. One of the best new creations comes in the form of deliciously devilish Dolores Umbridge, a Ministry of Magic employee sent to brainwash the students of Hogwarts, and the overarching plot points concerning a key prophecy, which ultimately culminate in a thrilling yet tragic ending. A definite must-read!

When Harry Potter returns to Hogwarts for his fifth year at the school for Wizards, many people do not believe his claim that evil Lord Voldemort is back. Cornelius Fudge is in staunch denial about Voldemort's return. He sends Dolores Umbridge to Hogwarts to bring it under the control of the Ministry of Magic. As the school year progresses under Umbridge's rule, things go from bad to worse when Harry repeatedly has bad dreams that cause the scar on his forehead to ache. He knows that means that Voldemort is growing stronger. With only a few friends and a group calling themselves the Order of the Phoenix believing his claims, Harry must study for his Ordinary Wizarding Level (OWL) exams and put up with Professor Umbridge making his life miserable.

Just when I thought this series couldn't get any better, the fifth installment tops them all. Rowlings characters grow with each book in the series. Many of the supporting characters we've met in previous books are back in this one. The new characters are fun, especially Professor Umbridge and her persistent "Hem, Hem" whenever she wants to interrupt a conversation or get someone's attention. I listened to the audiobook. Jim Dale does an outstanding job as the narrator. My rating: 5 Stars.

** spoiler alert ** so- i really like the beginning of this book. and i couldnt put it down when i got to the last 100 pages. BUT i am totally pissed that she killed Sirius. He was my very favorite character and im debating reading the last 2 books since he wont be in them. ive read some reviews saying this book was pointless in the series, but i think thats so incredibly wrong. so much was uncovered in this book- not to mention, hello- sirius dies. so i liked it (prisoner of azkaban is still my favorite thoough!)

I will first say that Im probably going to offend some fans of the series with this review, cuz I have some complaints against some fan favorite characters. Which well get to in a bit.

I get the impression that of the books in the series, people dont love this one as much, and I certainly dont hear as much about it as I do some of the others. However, I think that so many key things happen in this book that its very important to the rest of the series. Ive seen the movies about the next two books, so Ive seen whats to come, and I knew that this was going to be an action packed book where a lot of serious stuff comes to light.

At 15 years of age, Harry Potter has seen more and experienced more than anyone around him and more than anyone should or could expect. Hes nearly a man and yet everyone continues to treat him like the eleven year old little boy he was when he discovered he was a wizard. The gloves are completely off with book #5. Harry is very angry in this book and with good reason. He is attacked and is forced to use magic which results in a hearing to determine if he will be expelled from Hogwarts. Everyone seems to know more than he does about why he is experiencing strange dreams about you know who but nobody will tell him anything. Professor Dumbledore goes out of his way to avoid looking at him or even speaking to him. Everyone is tip-toeing around Harry as if he were made of glass.

After the hearing is over and he returns to Hogwarts, things dont get better at all. The new Defense Against The Dark Arts teacher is a despicable and twisted witch who quite quickly uses her influence and connections at the Ministry to take over the school and not teach any actual defense tactics. People are convinced that Harry is an attention seeking lunatic who has made up the entire story of Voldemorts return.

The first time I read this book, I immediately despised Dolores Umbridge, the new Defense Against The Dark Arts teacher. Shes a very sadistic individual who takes great pleasure in punishing people. Though the readers can certainly empathize with Harrys hatred of Professor Snape, I can state that Umbridge beats Snape hands down in characters you would most like to see receive the Dementors kiss. That feeling has not changed one bit between then and now.

Unfortunately for Harry, he doesnt seem to have an ally at the school. Professor Dumbledore is conspicuously absent and when he does make an appearance, he avoids looking at or speaking to Harry. I felt frustrated for Harry. Hagrid has been gone and when he finally returns, Harry still feels isolated. The only thing he truly looks forward to is playing Quidditch, especially now that Ron is on the team. Unfortunately, Professor Umbridge is determined ruin that for Harry too.

As a result of Umbridges refusal to teach true Defense Against the Dark Arts, Hermione insists the only way the students will learn is to do it themselves. After some persuading, Harry agrees to start secretly coaching other students on performing defense spells. They even call themselves Dumbledores Army.

Ultimately, Harry has to rely on those around him as Voldemort and his Death Eaters make their move. Just like Goblet of Fire, Order of the Phoenix does not have a happy ending for Harry. The wizarding world is officially at war and the stakes are higher than ever.

OotP is one of my favorites in the HP series. My favorite scene is when Dumbledore's Army goes to the Ministry of Magic. It makes for some hilarious consequences! Overall, I think OotP takes us to a darker place and sets the stage for a more complex and mature theme played out in the last two books. Like GoF, OotP involves the death of a beloved character and shows a little of how Harry copes with losing yet another close relationship.

As his fifth year at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry approaches, 15-year-old Harry Potter is in full-blown adolescence, complete with regular outbursts of rage, a nearly debilitating crush, and the blooming of a powerful sense of rebellion. It's been yet another infuriating and boring summer with the despicable Dursleys, this time with minimal contact from our hero's non-Muggle friends from school. Harry is feeling especially edgy at the lack of news from the magic world, wondering when the freshly revived evil Lord Voldemort will strike. Returning to Hogwarts will be a relief... or will it?
