Written in the '70's and reads like the '70's. Still a very good read. I grew up around the Amish in Wisconsin and found a thrilling familiarity with the old-timey people of Cornwall Coomb.

Before Stephen King, there was Thomas Tryon. A young couple move to a new town and immediately sense that there are some peculiarities. It is a very close-knit and tight community, almost incestuous. They meet and become good friends with a couple where the husband is blind. Special emphasis is placed on the big harvest time and especially the customs & traditions associated with it. I read this when I was 15 and it frightened me back then. Something of a thriller!

Good horror
It was almost as if time had not touched the village of Cornwall Coombe. The quiet, peaceful place was straight out of a bygone era, with well-cared-for Colonial houses, a white-steepled church fronting a broad Common. Ned and Beth Constantine chanced upon the hamlet and immediately fell in love with it. This was exactly the haven they dreamed of. Or so they thought.
For Ned and his family, Cornwall Coombe was to become a place of ultimate horror.
