Nice quick read...

Hatteras Girl was my first encounter with author Alice J. Wisler. The story centers on Jackiean almost thirty year old single woman who is trying to attain her dreams in life. Jackie lives with her childhood friend, Minnie, and helps her raise her son while they both dream of owning a bed and breakfast one day. In the mean time Jackie is busy working as a writer for a magazine and waiting for Mr. Right. Jackie has plenty of help looking for the right man as all her relatives try to set her up with eligible bachelors.

I found the book to be very well written and it held my interest as I watched Jackies story unfold. I appreciated that the Christian characters acted and talked like Christians without being sappy or unbelievable. The descriptions were great and the blind dates were funny. While touching on sad events in the lives of the characters, the book did not strike me as depressinginstead I was encouraged and uplifted by the way the people got through their difficulties. I loved the ending.

This book did exactly what I expect from a good book: it was an easy read, had enough plot twists to keep me interested, and made me think about how God works in my own life during the difficult times, as well as encouraging me to look for His blessings along the way.

Bethany House Publishing graciously provided me with a copy of this book but I was in no way instructed on how to write my review-my opinions are mine.

Very boring book for over half of it. I read every book I start, however this one dragged so bad that it was no fun reading.

This was a really good book about a young woman's dream to own the beautiful bed and breakfast originally owned by a dear friend from her childhood. It looks like she is about to get her heart's desire, but will it come with a price? Sweet story filled with interesting and loving family members.

Jackie Donavon is turning 30 and has yet to see her life dreams even begin to unfold. One is to marry a wonderful man and the other is to own the town bed and breakfast that holds so many happy memories of her childhood.

She trudges along at her job as a reporter for a local publication, highlighting local businesses for tourist. She shares an apartment with her widowed childhood friend, Minnie and Minnies 4 year old son. In addition to Minnies grief over the loss of her husband she is also dealing with the decline of her much loved mother. Jackie is always there support as best she can and helping with her son.

Working and going on horrible blind dates her relatives continually set up for her seems to be her lot in life.

Suddenly the tide seems to shift when she meets handsome and wealthy Davis Erickson. It seems all her prayers are going to be answered, but are they? Amy learns that things are not always as they seem.

I very much enjoyed this book. I like books that I can become immersed in the characters. I felt a part of her warm, loving and supportive family. It was as if I knew each one personally, their quirks, faults, and positive attributes.

The book had many surprises along the way, pleasantly interwoven throughout the story. The book was a reminder to me of how God is always working in our lives whether we see it not. Jackie made me think of myself when I try to second guess God and look for my plans to unfold instead of letting Him write my script. It also brought to mind the many times answered prayer was right in front of me but I couldnt see it because I was looking in the wrong places. While things may not always work out the way I planned, God will take care of everything in His way and His time.

I was delighted to see at the end of the book were some very special family recipes that were mentioned throughout the story. As I read I thought, I wish there was a recipe for that! A very nice touch to an already excellent book!

In exchange for my honest review, I received a copy of the book from Bethany House Publishers.
