Three pretty good paranormal romance. Very quick read. Somewhat graphic love scenes.
Night's Darkest Embrace by Jeaniene Frost: This is the first time I've read Frost's Nocturna world. I'm familiar with her Cat/Bones books though. Nocturna is an alternate universe where certain creatures can cross from this world. In Nocturna, you are either partial demon, full demon (not welcomed), fallen angel (most people think they don't exist), or some type of paranormal creature. Mara is a partial demon who tries to figure out what happened to her cousin years ago when a full demon captured them. Mara escaped with the help of Nocturna's leader, Rafael but not her cousin. Like in Frost's Cat books, Mara is very impulsive and young but clever. There were parts I thought Mara was too rash but I have to keep in mind she is young. Overall a very cool read. I'm interested to see if she has other books in this universe she created.
Mated by Shayla Black: This is part of the Doomsday Brethren series where a few selected warriors fight a naughty wizard intend to taking over the world. Raiden's has a twin brother named Ronan whose story can be downloaded for free at Black's website. The two stories are really similar and filled with "I'm not good enough for you so I'm going to break your heart because I know what is best" attitudes. Given, Ronan isn't as much of a martyr as Raiden is. Both Raiden and Tabby are both very annoying characters but somehow I kept reading. Tabby does whatever everyone tells her to do for the most part and is so forgiving with Raiden which makes me want to slap her. She does grow a backbone towards the end. Not my favorite story but it has peeked my interest in the series to see if Black's other stories are different. If I had to pick between the two, Ronan's story was better.
Darkest Temptation by Sharie Kohler: So glad I read this story because I forgot Kohler existed. I have read her first two book in the lycan hunter series and then forgot about her because she doesn't seem to publish as much as other paranormal series. I was very happy to rediscover her and look forward to reading the other two books of her series. Here it is a little different because it's more about the lycans than the hunters. My only complaint about this story is that I hope Black returns to Luc and Lily to see how they are doing. It seemed more like an intro to a bigger story.
Overall, a worthwhile read.
