I was really blown away by this book - in fact, I think it is one of the best that I have read yet this year. An African girl of 17 years of age tries to get political asylum to escape "kakia" or FGM as she flees Togo by way of Germany and then the U.S. This was a painful but incredible description of her ordeal in prison and finally the legal difficulties endured as her legal team worked day and night trying to get asylum granted. Fascinating and heart-tugging, this is a must-read for women and women rights advocates everywhere, but this is really a book for everyone. Truly absorbing.

This is an fantastic listen! Its impossible to put down. Its beautifully written and fabulously performed. The story is fascinating, heart wrenching & riveting as Fauzia escapes from her country, her marriage & genital mutilation. She arrives in the USA requesting political asylum. She is put into prison under the most horrendous conditions that should shock us as American citizens because the whole story is true. It happened & is still happening today. Once we know this, we can't go back to not knowing. I highly recommend this story.
A need to read for every woman. We need to know what our world wide sisters are suffering.
Interesting Book
I beleive everyone should read this book. It's mind boggling what this poor girl went through trying to get to America. A big book , but hard to put down. A story one won't forget. Very well written.
EXCELLENT BOOK! I COULDN'T PUT IT DOWN!! I FELT BADLY FOR THE WAY THE AUTHOR WAS TREATED IN OUR AMERICAN PRISON; HARD TO BELIEVE WE AMERICANS WOULD TREAT IMMIGRANTS SO CRUEL, WORSE THAN WE TREAT OUR ANIMALS!!
