I have read several of Showalter's books and really like them but . . .
Heart of The Dragon in my estimation is more unadulterated sex
then there is story, with a little sprinkle of humor.
Almost to the end of the story you get to the basic adventure.
Not many Demons[unless you count the human ones], or Nymphs either
and way short of Vampire's.

I would say the heroine was a ditzy blonde, if the story did not explicitly describe her as a redhead. Our hero and heroine spend most of the time thinking about the sex they "should not have," instead of getting on with the story. Sorry, Gena, but I need more story to keep my interest, and deeper protagonists. I"m canceling my request for the second book in this series.

I liked this story, it was romantic, adventurous and should be made into a movie!!

I do not usually read fantasy romance, but this book did keep me interested.

This is a typical romance book if you strip off the paranormal elements. Now with that being said....I liked it..I liked the idea that she has about Atlantis holding other beings. She changed my view of Atlantis. I used to think of it more like the Sci/fi show I love. At first when someone's review said a dragon, I was worried. Now if the dragon has a human form then okay I'm game. He did thankfully have a human form. I love it when a powerful woman can break through these stubborn men's built up emotional walls. He even cried and I found that endearing since he finally grieved for his long dead family. Fast, Fun, Romantic,Adventure read.
The author's heroine was not the petite perfect model shape. She wasn't obese but she did have a few curves. I found that more realistic and I approve!

Searching for her missing brother, Grace Carlyle never dreamed she would discover a secret world populated by mthological monsters-or find herself facing a sword-wielding being whose looks put mortal men to shame.........

This book was so similar to those by Christine Feehan I was not at all suprised to learn this author and she are aquainted and have worked on numerous books together. An excellent read for lovers of Sci-fantasy and romance both. If you dislike the verbal use of certain body parts namely the c-word in reference to a man's member you will want to skip this one. Not for young romance readers. I personally found this book a bit of a fun read.

Awesome book!!!Very imaginative!!!Loved it!!!

This first book in the Atlantis series had interesting characters, an intricate story line and a fairly well-paced plot. Even with all that there was still something missing. The story never played out to its full potential and the characters never fully developed. These two things made the overall composition fall flat.

A human woman, while searching for her missing brother, stumbles into the lost city of Atlantis and meets the man of her dreams - but he is a dragon. I really enjoyed this book. Would have liked a bit more story and a little less "romance" but it was a good read.

âHeart of the Dragonâ
By
Gena Showalter
Grace Carlyle, frustrated by her boring, predictable job and lack of romance in her life sets out on a potentially dangerous mission to find her brother who disappeared into the Amazon Jungle on a research trip many weeks ago. After her guide steals from her and retreats into the Jungle Grace finds herself wandering, looking for the way out. Instead of getting out of the jungle however, she unknowingly heads deeper in, finally coming across a strange portalâ¦the entrance to the Mythical world of Atlantis.
Darius en Karigan Dragon Warlord of Atlantis feels Grace enter his world and runs to strike her down before she can bring peril to his homeland. Strangely drawn to her however, he finds he cannot bring himself to kill her like he has killed all the others who dared to venture into his homeland. After learning more about her Darius realizes that the city of Atlantis is in danger. Alex had not just gone missing, he is the subject of a conspiracy, a conspiracy to strip Atlantis of all its riches and murder its mythical inhabitants. Together, Darius and Grace must solve the mystery and save Atlantis from greed and deception.
In the words of my fiancé: âThis book is horrible!â Personally, I find that to be a little harsh. I knew going in that âHeart of the Dragonâ was a romantic fantasy, a genre that Showalter is famous for. That being said, I wasn't expecting much and ended up pleasantly surprised. The reading is quick and easy so it makes a good plane/beach read.
âHeart of the Dragonâ got better the more I read. If you aren't familiar with Showalter's style the first part of the book might make you want to roll your eyes a tad with the obvious clichés and overly fantastic style that many romance novelists have adopted in order to âengageâ the reader from the first page. This is probably what made my fiancé laugh and make fun of me when I accidently left my book in the bathroom after a bubble bath. In any case, this is a definite âchick bookâ and should have it written on the cover in large, bold letters.
Keeping all of that in mind, I honestly liked âHeat of the Dragon.â It was pointedly less serious than the book I'd just finished, had lots of fun, mystery, romance, and just a sprinkling of danger which will undoubtedly lure me back to more works by Showalter. If you're skeptical of romance novels stay away, but if you need something fun, short, and slightly mindless, this is a good choice. âHeart of the Dragonâ held my interest, and even though I had to wade through a river of melted cheese to get to the heart (no pun intended) of the story I sincerely enjoyed it and continue to be a Gena Showalter fan.
3 ½ stars.

Book 1 of the Atlantis series, I really loved it. The fantasy characters that the series is based on are an interesting aspect and a nice twist on the good old romance novel.

Great read - fun and holds you to the end. A bit racing, but not vulgar.

i love atlantis stories. this one was sweet, although i thought something was missing. the ending was a bit too easy after all the build-up and somethings were left unresolved.

I like the suthor Gena Showalter, she is very funny, if you ever see her interviews on youtube. This book was okay for me. I will read the next book in the series, but this story was very slow in the beginning and the end was rushed.

I put off reading this book for the longest time. This book was ok for me. I had higher expectations after reading Showalter's Lords series. If you are a fan of Feehan there were really alot of similiarities to her Dark series. For me this book lacked originality and it was pretty slow moving at times. The relationship between Grace and Darius was enjoyable tho. Hoping that the next 3 pick up the pace.

I read this once before and liked it but since Jewel of Atlantis is being released soon, thought I'd reread it. I don't think it's as good as her other books but I'm a fan of shape-shifting and Atlantis so it's a keeper.
Not my favorite book by this author. I skimmed ahead alot. I would highly recommend her Lords of the Underworld Series. Those were great! Can't wait for the newest one.
I found this book disappointing. The characters were weak as was the story line, I never felt any connection with either. I expected better of the author.
Gena Showalter is just great! Heart of the Dragon is the first in her Atlantis series, and boy what a way to start!
She has created a whole new world, with funny and moody characters. Great plot, wonderful sex scenes, believeable characters, and no whiny women characters (just hate those!).
This is definate must read for anyone looking for a funny and entertaining paranormal book!

loved the Atlantis sotry line. enjoy able characters.
Enjoyed the characters and the storyline. It moved very fast. I'm looking forward to reading more in the series.
LOVE it!! Written with passion and intensity. Showalter takes us through the mist to Atlantis and it is a MUCH diffirent place than expected. This is the first in the series and I immediately signed on for more.
As the beginning of the Atlantis Series, this one is just getting you primed for the others that follow it. Gena is on a roll. This is one hot story about a very hot male/dragon. Atlantis is described to be so beautiful that you really want to go there yourself. Very dangerous, very fast paced, very heart moving. Romance? Oh yeah. Lots of it. Gena Showalter is a shining star. I will continue to read each and every one of her paranormal romances as fast as they hit the press! Keep 'em coming!
Great series not at all what I expected, could not put it down or wait to get the next book.
I loved this book! I was sucked in right off the bat and could not put it down until it was done, much to my families dismay. I was a little leary in the beginning when the female heroine seemed to be spineless scared woman, but the storyline made up for it and kept me reading until she grew her spine. The sex scenes are great too.
I simply love this new "Atlantis" series by Gena Showalter!! The characters are just wonderful, I fell in love with them from the very start! Can't wait to read the others in the series. Super fast read that left me wanting more!!!
I really enjoyed this book. This story really was a page turner for me. Humorous, suspenseful and sensual. I always love Gena Showalter's books. (:
This was really enjoyable and interesting. This will be a keeper on the bookshelf.
Love this series. Great read.
I love Gena Showalter, and I absolutely loved this book! Cant wait to read the others!
cute easy read with interesting storyline and likable characters.
First book I have read by her. This was a "sweet" science-fi/romance story. Interesting characters but not enough about the dragon!
Thos Atlantian males are gorgeous
Cute paranormal romance but not my favorite!
Love this series. Sure there are some mistakes but story not affected.

great book. wish there was a part two.
loved it 1st book i've read by showalter will read more
So much fun! Nice easy light hearted read.
Nice paranormal romance with a bit of humor mixed in.
Fantastic! I was expecting this book to be good, but it actually turned out to be really amazing! A paranormal romance that's packed with danger, angst and drama that still manages to be sweet and exciting at the same time. Definitely a MUST READ.
Great book, storyline, and well put together. Excellent series and a must read. Gena Showalter does not dissappoint.
Not bad, but not great, either. Very much your standard formulaic paranormal romance: tortured Hero who can't allow himself to fall in love, strong but insecure Herione, evil menace that must be defeated. The main characters were well developed, but the secondary ones were pretty flimsy. This book focused on the dragons - next one focuses on their mortal enemies, the vampires. No big surprises here, just a decent book to pass the time.
This is a great book.
a good start to a new series . new heroes and heroines new places interesting
I was just not thrilled... not one I COULDN"T put down!!!
like this book - kept me guessing what was going to happen.
Loved it!
great read, can't wait for the next one.
