I was pleasantly surprised by this book. For one thing, I am from central Mississippi and have spent many Memorial Day weekends on the beach in Gulf Shores and Orange Beach. With that said, I feel like Andrews did a fantastic job capturing the sights, smells, attitudes, and attractions of the area.

Apparently, this is a true story. It is cleverly told, well-paced, and reads like fiction. I was surprised that I had never learned that German U-Boats were in the Gulf during WWII, so I appreciated the history lesson as well. The characters were interesting and the plot was not overdone.

In all, it was an easy to read, highly engaging book that I would gladly recommend. It does not swing too far on the sappy romance side, nor does it bog down too heavily in all of the details of the war. Instead, it strikes a nice balance between both extremes and because of that it should appeal to a rather wide selection of readers.

Loved this book! From an actual event in the author's own life, he has told the story of the characters and the times in a simple, straightforward book. I felt I was there in person. He creates a good depth of feeling in his characters and their actions. I now have a new favorite author, and will be looking forward to reading more of his books. D.
