This book is part of the Buchanan sibling series. All have been very good books. The Buchanan books are: "Heartbreaker" (Nick), "Mercy" (Theo), "Murder List" (Alec), "Slow Burn" (Dylan), & "Shadow Dance" (Jordan). There is also an intersecting character story involving the brother of Michelle from Theo's story. "Killjoy" comes after "Mercy".

For once.. I found a mystery that wasn't easy to predict! Usually authors use so much foreshadowing that it is obvious how the story will end. I was very impressed with this novel. There were some slower points in the middle.. but other than that it was a good read. A book that really will keep you guessing!

I've been very disappointed with Julie Garwood's contemporary romance/thrillers. With the change in time, it seems she's lost the complexity of story and character development. Honestly, this book is written simply, without complex sentences, and it drove me crazy. Didn't get through half of it.

Father Thomas Madden thought little could be said in the confessional that would completely shock him, but a man calling himself Heartbreaker changes that.

Quickly suspecting that this is a very disturbed individual, his concern turns to horror when the man claims to be a serial killer who has targeted Thomass sister, Laurent, as his next victim.

Thomas is torn between the sanctity of the confessional and calling in the authorities. However, Heartbreaker takes matters out of his hands by sending a recording of his confession to the FBI. He knows that Thomass friend Nick Buchanan is an agent and challenges the bureau to stop him.

When Thomas informs Laurent about Heartbreakers fixation, she is stunned. She will not run, however, but stay and fight.

About half way thru, I gave up. Too predictable. A step above the usual romance novel, but you just know what is going to happen.

This book was not a good romance novel at all. This is the story of Nick, the FBI agent who has been called in to help protect his best friend's sister from a killer. I won't go more into the plot because it has already been discussed by the other reviewers. My issues with this book was that it dragged on and on with useless information. There were so many stories and information given that went absolutely no where. It would have been better if some of the fluff was left out to focus more on the relationship between the hero and heroine. Their romantic connection was none existent. You could fit all of the romantic interactions between the couple on 2 pages. As a mystery, I guess it was okay. But I expected a Romance and there was very little of that.

I don't usually enjoy romance novels, but this mystery/thriller has just enough romance woven into it (complete with ultra hunky men!) that I actually enjoyed it. It has an interesting plot that doesn't fly all over the place, but stays on track nicely until the very end. Enjoyable read!

Father Tom Madden is listening to a confession when the man confesses to a murder. Not only has he killed a woman, but he plans to kill another...Tom's sister, Laurant. Tom doesn't know who gave the confession; but he contacts his best friend, FBI Agent Nick Buchanan, to protect his sister. Nick isn't about to let anything happen to Laurant. Since he is prepared to stick with her 24/7, they tell everyone that they are engaged after a whirlwind courtship. The hope is that the killer will become jealous and make his move.

The first book in Julie Garwood's romantic suspense series gets off to a slow start. It took me a week to read this book. I had a hard time with the continuous descriptions and extraneous facts that were thrown into the story. I think a good editor could have slimmed this book down to a manageable story.

Thankfully, the pace of the story picked up after 100+ pages. The suspense was well done. There were a handful of suspects to sort through. I did guess the killer but not his true identity. My favorite part of the book was the elderly sisters who lived beside Laurant and kept an eye on everything that happened in the neighborhood. They set a lighter tone to the story, which was needed. I believe this was Julie Garwood's first romantic suspense book. I'm hoping her writing gets stronger and the series continues. My rating: 3.5 Stars.

did like the book, however, I just wanted a bit more. I didn't really like the name Laurant either. Story moved quickly, I just wanted a little more from my H/H. The ending was a little too quick. Those are my only complaints... I laughed numerous times.

I love all Julie Garwood's historicals and only have 2 or 3 left to read, so I decided to read a couple of her romantic suspense and save the last historicals for later.
