This is a lovely Inspirational love story. What made this book unique was that unlike so many other books, the main character did not have a perfect body, she was not perfected coiffed, she was not beautiful on the outside, she was true.
Theres an adage that says, men plan, God laughs and Mae Nunn shows this to be true in a wonderfully written romance that involves a former ballet dancer named Jessica Holliday and a former Army captain named Andrew (Drew) Keegan.
Jessicas dance career ended with a car accident that left another man, Adam Crockett, dead. In the meantime, shes discovered that she has the makings of a highly skilled landscape architect and starts her own business. Shes also put on about 70 pounds in the process, and this is one character trait I loved about her: shes not tall, willowy, or drop dead gorgeous. Shes intelligent, determined, sharp-witted, and shops at Lane Bryant. And Andrew seems to like her this way.
Andrew, meanwhile, is trying to follow both Gods will for him and his fathers plan for his life, which includes a loveless marriage to a social-climbing shrew named Amelia Crockett, Adams sister. Amelia and Andrews father are very one-dimensional characters. I find it hard to believe that any parent would attempt to control his childs life the way Andrews father does, but then I considered that Andrews father is a state senator, and knowing how media influence works in politics, it sort of made sense. I loved that Andrew stood up to his father and Amelia on several occasions.
The plot is standard romance novel fodder, but the characterizations of Drew and Jessica make this work. Highly recommended.

If you've ever been to a Waffle house, you'll love the line on page 117: "What I want is to go to one of those waffle places and order some scattered, smothered, covered and chunked hash browns."
