Kate is a 41-one year old lapsed Catholic. Mark is the Episcopalian priest in a Grateful Dead t-shirt who saves her life when she has a heart attack in the mall parking lot. This book evolved into an absolutely charming, quick read. It's an exploration of feelings and the need to overcome past mistakes and physical logistics. There is a wonderful supporting cast of Kate's mother, Maeve; her daughter, Gwynne, and a wonderful 97 yr-old lady in a nursing home. I truly enjoyed this one!

This was a great love story. While it wasn't racy or hot, it definitely conjured up strong sentiments about true love. Even though the main male character was an Episcopal priest, he wasn't a prude. He was very funny and lovable.

not my cup of tea but a good read
I have read a few of Bretton's books and loved them but not this one. I can put aside that the CPR and heart attack was extremely inaccurate. It's a romance after all so I can definitely suspend reality. But the first half of the book (the only part I can push myself through)was like an ode to the Catholic Church and the Pharmaceutical company.
On top of that she usually has some really interesting characters but I found Kate to be really dull. The repeated attempts for her to feel something just ran around in circles.

It all started with a red lace thong. Normally Kate is a twin set and pearls kind of girl who wouldn't be caught dead in such a thing. But that's exactly what happens when sudden chest pains leave her lying in a parking lot with her skirt hiked up around her hips for all of Princeton to see.
It's a man in a Grateful Dead t-shirt who saves her life, and then disappears without a trace. A total stranger-and yet Kate would give anything to see him again. How is she to know that her mystery man is planning a new, far-away life for himself, one that doesn't include romance, even if he can't seem to get the woman in red lace out of his mind?
Romance isn't high on Kate's list of priorities either. But when the handsome good Samaritan shows up on her doorstep, they discover that even the strongest heart is no match for love...
