This novel actually follows SYMPATHY FOR THE DEVIL and THE DEVIL AND DAN COOLEY, but it reads perfectly well on its own.
The basic premise: To today's mundane world comes one major change--the state of North Carolina has some new immigrants: God has Unchained some of the residents of Hell and let them loose in that state, with suitable safeguards, of course.
Traffic jams and road rage are on the increase, magic and mayhem start getting out of hand, gargoyles do nasty things to passers by below, and many neighborhood dogs are missing (dogs tend to make delicious demon snacks!) and some of the angels are upset that God has decided at this critical time to take a vacation . . .
