I was sad when I finally finished this book because it was so great I didn't want it to end. Weir has this fantastic ability to bring to life the words on her pages. The life of Henry and his court was beautifully detailed in painstaking research. I recommand this book to anyone who loves history or stories about people who were larger then life. This book is far from boring and easy to read page turner. The artwork in the book was also beautiful and interesting. I can't wait to pick up another one of her books.

This is a VERY detailed account of Henry VIII's court and daily life. It includes how the king was attended along with the contents of the rooms in his palaces, the people who attended him and his family. The reviewers called it extensively researched and the book contains details that I've never read before.

A wonderful book that teaches us just how the courts worked. Do not read if you want to retain a romantic view of kings and queens. Their lives were hard and no privacy whatsoever. I thought office gossips were bad but they are nothing compared to people in those days. It seeems everyone knew everyone elses business. Not the life for me (and the bathroom situations lwft a whole lot to be desired.) But for information on life in those times this book is amazing. I recommend reading it.

Excellent. From the back of the book...."Alison Weir, author of the finest royal chroniclers of our time, brings to vibrant life the turbulent, complex figure of the King. Packed with colorful description, meticulous in historical detail, rich in pageantry, intrigue, passion and luxury, Weir brilliantly renders King Henry VIII, his court, and the fascinating men and women who vied for its pleasures and rewards. The result is an absolutely spellbinding read."
