Great book, couldn't put it down . A mother and her two children running from an abusive marriage gets stopped by the police in a small town in Arizona. After being taken into custody since the police found drugs in an illegal search of her car, she asks where her children are and her answer..what children
The book is quick moving, had me turning pages as fast as possible until I finished this thrilling ride along with a mom's worst nightmare .

WOW! WOW! I was surprised when I started this book, it started out right a way setting up the plot, which I like, and when the chapter ends with 'What children?' wow, that really gets your attention and doesn't let up
Well written from the beginning, some foul language or if any not enough to flinch, story moves along at a good clip, and here's a huge plus from me, it doesn't go from present to past over and over in terms that's boring, it does give background on problems in the marriage (which is in the past) but it doesn't linger and get boring with anything just enough that the storyline unfolds
I'll look for more from Beck

A very frightening scenario. It kept me turning pages and had a lot of excitement. However I found it began to stretch the boundaries of believability before the end.
I was sent an ARC of this book for an honest review. This book is a parent's worst nightmare. Audra lives in New York and has packed her children in the car and is leaving her abusive husband. While driving to California, she is stopped by the sheriff in the Arizona desert and is taken into custody for having an illegal substance (which was planted by the sheriff). He tells a woman officer to take care of her two children and take them some place safe. When Audra later asks about her children, the reply is "What children?" I could feel my blood run cold and I could imagine how Audra felt. I found this book to be a very riveting, edge of your seat thriller with very believable characters. The plot was intense and caused the book to be hard to put down. It is very well written with twists that keep you emotionally involved. The ending had an exciting conclusion and all the loose ends were tied up neatly. I highly recommend this book to those who love action-packed thrillers.
Audra Kinney and her two children are en route to California from New York. Audra's abusive relationship with her husband, Patrick, has reached the point where she needs to keep herself and her children safe by seeking refuge with a friend across the country. They make it as far as a small hardscrabble town in Arizona when she is stopped by a sheriff for a minor infraction. During an unauthorized search of her trunk, a cache of marijuana is found and Audra is handcuffed and put in the back of the squad car. Her immediate concern is for the children in the back of her car. The sheriff assures her that a female deputy has taken them to a safe place. Audra is understandably hysterical about her children and spends a sleepless night in the jail under the watchful eye of the sheriff. When she asks repeatedly about the children's whereabouts, the sheriff responds with the chilling question, "What children?"
