Being a huge Motley Crue fan from the beginning, I read everything published about the band. Nikki Sixx has led a tumultuous life and it's a wonder he's still around. I absolutely loved the inside look at his crazy, drug addicted life. His writings tell a lot about what he was going through. It was sometimes hard for me to read, but, knowing he came out of it all okay, made it easier. Long live the Crue!

This book is amazing! It provides a fascinating look inside the mind of a junkie who just happens to be in a band called Motley Crue. This book has provided a major impact on how I now view Nikki Sixx and everything that he has a accomplished in his life. These diaries were written during the worst year of his drug use. This is definitely not a book for teens or kids. Lots of references to death, sex, and, of course, drug use are littered throughout the book.

I could not put this book down. I read it cover to cover without stopping. If you liked "the dirt" you will love this book. Also, if you have ever experienced addiction of any kind, this book is a great read. If you are thinking about experimenting with drugs, read this book!!! I am a huge Motley fan, but I do not think you need to be a fan of their music to appreciate this book for what it is.

Motley Crue bassist Nikki Sixx provides an almost day-to-day account of his life in 1987 through his journal entries, delivering a disturbing inside look into the mind of a heroin addict (hence the book's name). His wild overly-sowed oats, his supposed sobriety (assisted by Jack Daniels and cocaine), and his lightly-taken downfalls are all emphasized in this 400-page memoir decorated with equally disturbing blood-splattered stationary and an occasional image from his young and wild days. Nikki and his partners in crime also give present-day commentary on the uncovered entries, giving new light to his behind-the-scenes rock 'n' roll exploits.
This book isn't for the faint-of-heart. Many an f-bomb is dropped and sexual encounter described throughout his crazy year; but his experience with thhe drugs he longs to conquer his battle with are the most impacting and troubling of his many experiences on the Crue's rightfully-named Girls, Girls, Girls tour.
His two death-defying experiences with drugs are what help him seek assistance and sober up. And his following post-'87 wrap-up of his lfie to its current state (including the birth of his several children with really cool names, his two divorces, and the make-or-break moments of the Crue) is fast-paced, but leaves a lasting impression.

I've always been a big Nikki Sixx & Motely Crue fan. This book was great. Made me laugh & cry. Nikki is a great bass player & music writer. With all he has done in his life and to his body I'm suprised he is alive, but I'm glad he is. If your a Crue fan this is a must read.
Interesting insight into the world of the Rock & Roll drug lifestyle from someone in the middle of it all. I enjoyed the contrast between the the notes and journaling while it was happening and the comments made in current time looking back. The books design, presentation and artwork are pretty amazing.
This was one of the best books I've ever read. I have been a fan of the Crue since I was a kid and have read every book associated with the band and it's members. Nikki is a fascinating person and luckily overcame his addictions. This book is just great! It's a must read!
UNBELIEVEABLE book...I've always liked Motley Crue and Nikki Sixx, but this book documents a year of his life by diary entries and it's absolutely amazing that he is still alive. It really reminds us that fortune and fame don't bring peace or love to one's life, and that is what really matters...ROCKSTARS are not SUPERHEROS and this book really brings that into light
I am not much of a reader and books usually bore me but this book not only held my interest but it was totally exciting! I read this whole entire book in a few days which is rare for me. I had a difficult time putting this book down which is very unusual for me. If you like true stories or are a Motley Crue fan this a must read!
Someone left a new hardcopy version of this in the domicile so i snatched it up.
it was better than i thought but not great. its nikki sixx's diary enteries from the years of 86-87 when his life was spinning out of control because of drug and alcohol use. it started out ok and then i realized it was 400 pages of "tonight i drank, got high and fucked." it gets to be pretty boring after a while.
what i found interesting was the interspersed (sp?) thoughts of those who were around him at that time. i loved reading vanity's thoughts (shes a freaking mess- but its jesus shes on, not drugs.) and even nikkis refelctions on what was going on at the time.
if youre a fan of his or motley crues or if you like stories of drug use its for you. otherwies, its just a cool book to flip through.
