After FINALLY finding this book, it was worth the wait. Of course, the first thing I had to do was check the end to see if things worked out between Katie and Owen. ;) I didn't find it quite as fun as the other books, the sleepy Texas town wasn't quite as good a setting as Manhattan, but the story was good and I liked the ending.
The last I heard the 5th book in this series wasn't going to be published. That was about a year ago and I don't know if that has changed, but my B&N told me they don't even stock Shanna Swendson books anymore (although they could order it) and Borders had to go look in the back to find a copy for me. They had it, but couldn't be bothered to put it on the shelf. No wonder these books aren't selling! I think her publisher is doing her a grave disservice by marking these books as fiction/literature instead of romance where she would find a larger audience. Every book in this series has been worth my money!

I absolutely LOVE Shanna's writing style and am appalled at the neglect the entire sub-genre's treatment by Border's and BN. Book 3 took me a month to get my hands on because I naively assumed on could walk in and purchase it off the shelf. Had to special order it. It seems that Barnes & Noble slashed their order and then Random House decided not to publish book five. I wrote to Random House to show support, but never heard back. Again, how can people buy books if they make it so difficult to find?

This is the fourth in Swendson's series of light fantasy romances. Katie, who is immune to magic, leaves the wizard and the job she loves in New York City and goes home to her quiet rural hometown in Texas. Her beloved Owen chose to save her rather than do his duty in a conflict with evil wizards, and she feels she must remove herself from the equation so he can fight unimpeded. But suddenly there seems to be a new wizard wreaking havoc in her little town. Katie must call her old friends in New York for assistance.
I've really enjoyed all four books in this series and am sad to see that the fifth may never see publication. I purposely bought a new copy of this title at Borders to support the author when I learned the series might be cut off prematurely. The series as a whole is good enough that I've been willing to buy them all new in trade format, though overall I'm not a fan of trade romances and don't understand the rationale behind launching a relatively unknown author in this format. It might have been more realistic in the long run to release them as mass market originals.

I felt like I was attached to high tension wires throughout this book I just couldn't stop turning the pages in the excitement to see if Katie and Owen would get back together. It was yet again a fun and exciting ride with Katie and this time her whole family! It was nice to see how they fit in the picture.
Though the book had a good ending I am still dieing to see what Katie and Owen will get into next... hopefully more of each other...
Unfortunately her website (http://www.shannaswendson.com/faq.html) says the publisher won't pick up book 5 unless sales for book 3 and 4 pick-up.... so if you are due to be waiting for along time on this book why not buy it? After reading book 4 I still want more!

With this fourth volume in the series, some of the fun newness has worn off. But it's still an amusing fantasy/romance, with Katie now back in her hometown so we get a nice change of scene. Of course Katie's family are going to be real characters. Given the events in the last book there is no surprise when it turns out that Cobb Texas is not really a completely non-magical place, and Katie's family is not really non-magical either. Thankfully I think Idris' subplot may have come to an end, there was only so long Swendsen could spin him out as being a substantial enemy. Anyway, still enjoyable, just don't attempt to shoehorn logic on top of this world.
