This book was messy. I read the whole thing, in the hopes that it would eventually redeem itself, but it didn't. Around halfway through, I started to play the "where did the author borrow this idea from" game with the plot twists, settings, and characters. The Big Oncoming Evil introduced later in the book felt as if it were forced in, in order to justify a sequel. I think the book would have been better if the author had stayed with the kidnap/slave fantasy and clashing cultures theme in the first half. That part was good, even if derivative. It wasn't a huge waste of time reading it, since it was mildly entertaining, but I'm not bothering with the sequel and will be hesitant to read another book by this author.

You know its a problem when you can barely get through the 1st chapter of a book. The main character did nothing for me, I just found her unlikeable. Maybe someone else will like this.
I LOVED this book!!!! Will be reading the entire trilogy!!!
